Personally I don't think there is anything to be gained by this disparaging the victim even in the role of trying to get some perspective. The man had a history. So do I. The man made mistakes. So have I. He may or may not given the cop some shit. I have. I don't think there is any doubt that he and I would have very different experiences in similar situations. The cop killed this man with no need to do so. His coworkers watched, fucking watched and did nothing. Can't anyone tell me than at least one of these guys couldn't have stepped in and said enough. After all of this, his brother is asking for calm and peaceful protests. If we really want to gain some ground with sensible people, we must focus on the sins of the present rather than the past, understanding that there are many people who want anything but a peaceful agreement between sensible people. Those people need to be dealt with accordingly. Sometimes all of the gory details are not helpful. Just my 2 cents.
Agreed. All of that might have been relevant and discussion worthy had we been arguing about why the man was arrested in the first place. No matter what his history was, once he was subdued and in custody there was no reason to choke the life from him over the course of 7 or 8 minutes.
Well said, and I agree it doesnt matter if george floyd was hannibal lecter, you cant just sit on a person's neck and snufff them out while they are incapacitated. This is a huge failure on the part of government, I'm wondering how the hell someone like this gets to that point without people asking questions. I realise there is a solidarity among cops because most situations are not this cut and dry, but I wonder how the fuck no one spoke up.... this asshole had like 18 complaints, and he was so brazen he looked in the camera while he was being filmed choking a person to death. There had to have been some kind of clues before this that should have led to this guys immediate dismissal, I'm wondering how that happens and a clear sociopath lasts for decades before it escalates to this level.
So you decided after the fact that George was a violent criminal and high on drugs and therefore the police actions were valid and justified? I knew it would not take long for the cons to crawl out and paint the victim as someone who should have died given some other crime and likliness of being on drugs. Typical response to bring up the victim's past as though that is relevant for what happened last Monday. George was suspected of allegedly passing a counterfeit $20... funny how that never came up anymore as nothing was proven to justify arresting him. What is the punishment for suspected passing a $20 conterfeit bill? death?
