The problem with healthcare being a ‘right’, and thus ‘free’, is that it technically makes a doctor your slave. What caliber of doctor is going to work for teachers wages? Not when medical school costs upwards of $300k. There might be a happy medium where docs are all altruists and don’t care so much about making a good living... I had drinks with a German friend last night and while he leans VERY right for most everything, he also firmly believed that healthcare and education should be free. The problem with applying that to the US is manyfold but primarily - our early education system is absolute shit and we should be tiering and shifting kids early towards trade school and early apprenticeships. And the government is overrun by healthcare company and insurance company lobbyists....who have no altruistic bent.
