  1. i would support all manner of treatment. the problem with you is i detect no desire to get help. you selfishly just want your fix.

  2. one would hope that an enlightened educated populace would eventually throw off self destructive behavior. that brings us right back to you first post: "There's something wrong with human nature ." what is wrong is facing you in the mirror.

  3. Should people be allowed to destroy themselves?

Absolutely, as long as their destruction doesn't harm another person...

    ...so there's the rub.

It is a deeply philosophical question, that is likely beyond the ET mentality or the shallow Ayn Rand narcissists, but some Donne might give a glimpse of why self destruction harms every member of the society...and therefore is not just a self destructive act.

    No man is an island

No man is an island entire of itself; every man
    is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

    ---John Donne---

  4. Says the guy who neither endorses nor opposes grown men humping ten year old children. Is it your position then, that 'pedophilia doesn't harm another person'? Because I'm pretty sure it does.

The only good thing about vhehn's concentration camp utopia is that you'd be locked up too.

How about this scenario: You're traveling in international waters or some other locale where politicians haven't expressly prohibited child molestation, and you happen to catch a pedophile red handed on top of a ten year old child. You have a gun and the perv does not. Since you neither approve nor disapprove of child molestation in principle, do you draw your gun and force the molester to back off the kid, or do you just turn your back and walk away like nothing happened? (Note that a weaselly non-answer just means you'd pick option B by default.)

  6. Rearden, I've been around here a while and by some of your posts always thought you were the creme of the ET crop. I have been reading through this legnthy thread, paying special attention to your posts.

I'm going to be frank here as this is pretty damned sad. You are such a smart guy, apparently too smart. Why in the hell do you need to stay fucked up, and then say that drugs are a victimless crime. TELL THAT TO YOUR LOVED ONES YOU SELFISH JACKASS. It's attitudes like yours that lure innocent little ones to think it's ok and cool to get high, always craving a new high as their addiction takes over. I agree that drug pushers and users don't belong in jail. Pushers should be executed, and users belong in boot camp for a year on first offense.

You being an atheist when there is so much evidence of a creator shows just how lost you are. This is America, and many have died to give you the freedom to make the choices you are promoting. I wish you well and hope that someday you find the Light.

    Ricter

Last I heard, many people used these drugs, back around the turn of the 19th century, professional persons included, and so long as the supply was not curtailed they could function indistinguishably from folks who did not use the drugs.

  9. -----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is known. But with diabetes the person die if with no help from insulin. But with Rearden, his body will not die with no drug, but he (feel) not creative, maybe sad all the time with no drug. So he search for the cure for him. Is obvious if legal drug could help him, he will not take illegal drug.

  10. Since when has causing distress to loved ones been a crime? If it were, then being a racing driver, base jumper, soldier, offshore fisherman, or depressive would be a crime too, since all those carry a high risk of death.

Loved ones need to learn how to harden the fuck up, instead of going round trying to tyrannize their more adventurous risk-taking relatives.
