2. Sometimes people get drunk and post complete nonsense. It happens.
I prefer when they come back later and apologize, but either way it's probably nothing but an old fashioned P.U.I.

3. dude's on the ball ... (don't hold your breath expecting an apology though ... "A Jewish version of Hitler" ... i thought that was good comedy, mel brooks would have appreciated it)

what does P.U.I mean?

this is what I came up with:

http://plib.sourceforge.net/pui/

PUI: A Picoscopic User Interface

4. Like D.U.I.- but posting instead of driving.

5. People ask me that all the time, and this is obviously a matter I've given plenty of thought. I'll just post my comprehensive multi-faceted answer here for once and for all, and then just copy and paste this post the next 20 times I'm asked:.

Ok, so there's one main reason and many nagging side-issues why I don't just get up and cross the border for good when I get off paper in 6 months:

*The main thing is the massive pain-in-the-ass factor involved in relocating. I have my home the way I like it, and I shudder at the thought of having to deal with all these new (and probably incompetent, as most people are) home theater guys, cable/satellite guys, ISP guys, electricians, plumbers, painters, home inspectors, realtors, real estate lawyers, immigration lawyers, and 10 other things that'll come up... all this to just recreate a home like one I already have somewhere else. People annoy me.

The other reasons:

*At this moment in time the gov't in Canada is far less oppressive than here in the U.S. But wherever you go, the place is still run by people with power. Power corrupts, and human nature being what it is, the political climate in Canada could easily turn on a dime and deteriorate rapidly as has happened here. Then I'll have seriously inconvenienced myself for nothing.

*Money. I'm not nearly as rich as I used to be- especially overseas with the USD's decline and all.

*I don't like being a foreigner- being an outsider, not understanding any of the local ways. This is especially harsh if you have to switch languages. Remember 'Polish jokes'? When Polish immigrants came to the U.S. en masse in the early 20th century, everyone just assumed they were 'stupid', which was hardly the case at all. They merely appeared stupid by not knowing/understanding the language or customs of their new homeland. This issue wouldn't be as bad if I were to move to Canada, but it would still be there to a degree.

*I realize now that I can be a U.S. resident or I can be a junkie, but I certainly don't have the option of being both. At this point I'm still trying not to be a junkie, hoping I won't have to resort to that again. Even without prohibition, opiate addiction has plenty of nasty side effects.

*Pertaining specifically to Canada, I can't forget my bad experience 6 years ago driving from the U.S. into Toronto. The Canadian customs guys had me pull my car aside and the first thing they did was swab the steering wheel for cocaine. When it tested positive I was interrogated and harassed by impotent little Canadian men for 3 or 4 hours, purely for their own power-trip enjoyment. They could tell in under 5 minutes that I wasn't actually smuggling anything (not even for personal use), but continued to fuck with me for hours just to entertain themselves. Like I said, people are people. Laws change, the oppressed minority group du jour is always in flux, but there will always be something wrong with human nature- no matter where you go to escape it.

6. whilst i have enjoyed canada a few times, i totally know what you are saying as I was likewise detained and harassed for 2+ hoursat the border going into BC because i had a girl with me that had a misdemeanor drug charge in CA a few years earlier. after that, we were turned back so a complete waste of time(luckily, i was living in seattle at the time so not a big deal). apparently, they are none too friendly to yanks with even minor criminal infractions and there is little chance of immigration, or so they say...check out under 'You must also do the following"
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who-eligible.asp
supposedly, there are ways around it but sounds like a searing pain in the rectum (not to mention your understandable house issue). maybe Momo can give some insight?
metal dude, best of luck kicking for good as i have a handful of friends(now, mostly ex-friends) that just couldn't come out of it for any reasonable stretch of time though quite a few that have, both through the program (which i, personally, am not a fan of but hey, it works for some people) and without.
IMO, every single person has the seeds of almost any of the worst things human beings do and surely, have the capacity to get strung out/hooked on whatever intoxicant, pk, stimulant, empathogen, hallucinogenic or whatever, whether the drug magnet is psychological, physical or in your case with opiates, both.
regarding human nature or anything being "wrong", i think of a funkadelic song just 'cause i am one of those irritating positive fucksticks,
"a situation is just that,
it has no special power,
to do you harm,
it's the reactions that count." :D
actually, those words are pertinent to how we naturally react to what we deem a stressful situation or a trigger song, place, whatevuh, we don't HAVE TO react in any particular way or see anything as good or bad, right or wrong (though it can be WAY difficult not to when we are so strongly conditioned otherwise).
honestly, good luck and at least you still have a house and not a fridge box under a bridge in IL in the winter, that would truly suck.

8. You know what is really nice for you, you are comfortable with your own bestiality...

You post false claims constantly about me, have no supporting evidence that can prove your claims, and when I post your confessional comments of bestiality...

...you never deny it!

:D

9. I think the fact is, it's too cold in Canada to do anything beyond collecting maple syrup, hunting bear's, or wishing you were in the Bahama's.

The Montreal option is still there for R$M, but learning Quebecois into the bargain?

Doable, but cold. Really, really f*cking cold.

Wow,

Just read this whole thread without stopping, very interesting discussion. Complicated issue, I am against adults being told what they can and can't do as long as it doesn't harm others. The question of what harms others is a bit subjective and tricky. What I do know is that the war on drugs is not a war that can end in victory. The waste of resources is staggering, but fighting dead end wars is our specialty these days. People have been doing drugs longer than there has been strife in the middle east. Neither is going to change just because the US govt wants it to.
