Russia needs Gold only if they then in turn trade that out for imports. Except where will they import goods from besides China? China is playing the old triangular relationship game, we (Nixon) did with them to get USSR off balance. Which benefitted China once USSR was weakened and then collapsed. IMO this time around Russia will collapse again, in a sense USSR same difference, but China won't get much benefit out of that.
I think it is very un-luckly to talk like that, with the U.S. @ 140% debt to GDP. The only reason that continues to work is the U.S. Dollar "Reserve Currency Status" which U.S. Policy makers are trying their hardest to end, while doing a huge bravado high-five at Putin's expense. There have been huge screw-ups in previous U.S. confrontations, but never like this. Can't make this stuff up.
Just to add, at a previous day job, I worked at HSBC.com It's like the U.N. of financial organizations. I knew a guy there, Ruslan (a Russian national). He told me the stories from his Grandfather, who was in WWII. The first thing the Russian (Soviet) government did was to nationalize all the vodka distilleries. Logic being, Russians can't fight a huge war without alcohol. Compare that to the U.S. and happy time war movies with John Wayne. The U.S. has a pretty limited perspective of what maybe coming.
Not saying never, but I go with probabilities. As Buffett said last year (not particularly a fan or not of his btw) "Never bet against America".
Am short, adding to my shorts, this going to be incredible year to downside. Am long currencies, short Bitcoin in futures. Everything is beyond common sense. Life is good.
Hi Handle, certainly none of my business, but I can't help but notice that in a lot of my posts (advocating long positions) you are short, and seem to be enjoying it. This is from FEB 13 "In Wheat futures, am short from November highs and recently shorted more on pullback and will again" https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/got-wheat.364916/ On FEB 13 WEAT closed at $7.71 It closed today $10.35. Simple calculation says that's a 34% loss in less than 8 weeks. Are you legit? Or is this like the snippets from Monty Python and the Holy Grail "Merely a Flesh wound" as the guy becomes a quadriplegic.
Look for key word: hedge. That allows someone to say but no I didn't lose because I hedged .... my 150 lot.
If you are talking about Mr. Handle, that's not what he is saying "Am short, adding to my shorts" I think this EliteTrader is loaded with BS artists. That is not a good thing.
Yea I know and understand what you are saying. Just that it seems he often mention hedge in a lot of his posts and I'm thinking (might be wrong of course) that he hedges what he posts prolly more than what he trades.
