just download a weekly economic calendar from www.cbs.marketwatch.com ... and make sure to have no open position when the crucial figures are published. regards wild
as wild indicates, i never trade in the lead up to important economic news, and i personally always give a little space afterward to see if a well defined trend appears - normally i trade right on the trend change - but not after news which affects the market too much as there is then too much second guessing and therefore noise by the various combatants i have no interest in news otherwise since the market tells me when good or bad news has come in by its movement
i have no interest in news otherwise since the market tells me when good or bad news has come in by its movement I think that is one of the best TA statements I have ever heard. If I could rec it I would. Instead I'll copy it and stick it on my board Helen
Hi Helen Glad to see you've joined us at ET. Looking forward to the next meeting. David alias: spike @ T2W
Hi Spike, I saw the name and wondered if it was you, it is! You going to do a presentation in January then? Please
Well put steve.. last time I was in a stock leading up to the last fed non event I was really intending to be out well before the non announcement (short) .. lol to my regret the damn thing (nyse) neither stopped me out nor made me a gain.. 2 1/2 hrs later and 5 mins before the moment it suddenly jumped like 50c and stopped me out.. nasty action.. then spent the rest of the day falling over a dollar.. ouch and damn and other stuff.. yeah well I know.. goes with the terrority.. but I really did not wanna play that time and sure will not make that particular mistake again Neil
Just a quick thank-you to Stevet, without your bluntness re Spreadbets I wouldn't have had the bottle to open my IB account. Thank you. I needed the push.
helen ok, great, speadbetting can only ever be gambling for kicks dont forget that even in futures, luck gives you the winners, but skill cuts the losers immediatley any market that breaks down from your entry level is telling you that you got the entry wrong all the best - and the estoxx50 is as good as any to trade, but it is a US shadow in the afternoon, so if u make bucks fast in the afternoon, remember you will lose them even faster
Just wanted to add myself to the list of UK traders lurking this board. Based SW Herts. Yes, Steve I am still around!!! My background has mostly been futures on both side of the pond. But last month I attended a professional stock trading seminar by Echotrade in Las Vegas. I also went back to their office in San Diego and watched them practice what they were preaching. As a result I am gearing up to daytrade NYSE stocks at the mo.
