Actually, Lakeland, Florida (about 50 miles away) was the Lightning Capitol according to Guiness a few years ago. Never been struck. Of course, I don't golf in thunderstorms, either. But the power goes off alot.

Went up on a lookout hill once with about 100 other people to watch a storm. Talk about the hand of God. A lightening bolt struck about 100 feet from the group and it was like thumping a countertop with a bunch of ants on it. Instant frenzied random motion.
