  4. I've been a Snowbird for 5 years.
On Sep 28 my Fort Myers Beach winter home was rendered uninhabitable by Hurricane Ian.
I haven't rebuilt yet, others have.

Born, raised and lived in SE WI all of my life,
still have my WI home of 25 years.

I might just sell my damaged FL home for whatever I can get and stay in WI.
    FL is nice but it's...different.
I couldn't see myself being in FL year round, full time.

If I had to pick between FL and WI,
    I'd pick Wi.
    Zero hesitation.

“Florida is America’s inflation hotspot because of a persistent problem with sky-high housing costs,” CNN reports.

“The Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach area has the highest inflation rate of metro areas with more than 2.5 million residents, with a 9% inflation rate for the 12 months ended in April.”

Maybe GOP needs to think about the political cost of not properly fixing the homeowners insurance problem in Florida. There have been multiple proposals put forward that would fix the problem but the GOP just went with a fluff approach that does not address the problems -- but makes things more difficult for homeowners.

Florida has far higher property insurance costs than all the other states which regularly experience hurricanes - Louisiana, North Carolina, etc. It is not that Florida experiences more damaging storms causing the property insurance problems; it is Florida's failed regulations which are causing the high costs --- and insurance companies to flee the state.

Insurance is going up everywhere. Our HO premiums went from $930 last year to over $1300 this year. Our car ins went from $2300 to over $3100. Some Ins co's have stopped writing policies in CA and others are exiting.

Florida has far higher property insurance costs than all the other states which regularly experience hurricanes - Louisiana, North Carolina..

The parts of NC that get hit by hurricanes are sparsely populated. NC doesn't come close to comparing with a state like FL where the majority of the population is on the coasts. That's an asinine argument to make. But then, it's what you do.

I get you have a hard-on for Desantis, but....

Gov. DeathSentence's plan for coping with insurers fleeing the state? "Knock on wood, we won't have a big storm this summer." Other possibilities? "Lalalala I can't hear you, hurricane" and "Eenie meenie miney mo, get your blow to Mexico"

Ron DeSantis says insurers will return to Florida after hurricane season
'So knock on wood, we won't have a big storm this summer.'

That's a fine plan you have there Ronnie. How about fixing the underlying problems in the Florida insurance market?
