Exactly, only you know what your threshold is. Warren Buffett would be happy if his net worth is only a few millions instead of billions since he lives in the same house since 1958, drives an American car, eats at McDonald and drinks cherry coke. For me, it means financial freedom: freedom from worry about put food on the table, freedom to choose where I want to live, how I want to live and finally, freedom from worry about income.
Sure, if you see it as robbery I highly recommend to leave such evil country that robs you and buy an island and build your own school, police force to keep you secure, roads, airport, and law court. You should be much happier. Don't let anyone hold you back. But if you decide to stay then you implicitly agree and accept the basic laws of that country and fundamentally agree with the way how finances are raised that pay for all the goodies you enjoy every day. I hope this answered all your remaining questions. P. S. Personal freedom only goes as far as it not infringing on someone else's freedom. Check it, it's in your constitution. What you want individually does not really matter in a democracy, it's what a majority decides. If you can't live with that perhaps going back to where your forefathers came from might be one consideration.
Everybody uses the listed govt basic services but individual tax contributions vary vastly from person to person and some people's benefit from govt programs is many times larger than their contribution. Did you forget to mention socialist welfare programs? That's why for some people taxes are a legalized robbery and redistribution of wealth. You don't want to pay 90% of your income on taxes, don't you? P.S. Isn't taking stock of my possessions by the govt for the purpose of taxing it a violation of my privacy & personal freedoms?
Mate, as I said you live in a society that by majority sees the benefits in taxing wealthier more heavily to pay for the poor with less opportunities who pay less or no taxes. If you don't like it, leave. If you have other, new points to add let us know, otherwise I consider this exchange as being concluded.
Sure, until the agitating hard socialists and borderline communists run out of other people's money. And I always thought a mature democracy is better at protecting minority rights: ethnic minority rights, religious minority rights, LGBT rights, rich people rights.
Don't make me laugh. Protecting the rights of the wealthy? Virtually the entire legal, executive, and legislative setup favors and benefits the wealthy. You are dreaming my friend. Am done in this thread.
Isn't this Senator Bernie's job to sponsor the legislation that would benefit the poor? If you simply mean that the tax legislation favors the rich, then be reminded that the top 5 percent pays about 58% percent of all income taxes. Not sure how does it benefit the wealthy?
