I'm part of that 17% that thinks it was a tie (draw) but I'm more leaning towards Walz as the winner because of the January 6th riots...how Vance responded to Walz's question about January 6th. They spent too much time looking at each other and agreeing on many issues. Walz took too long to admit he misspoke about a story about being in China during a famous protest when he was in Nebraska. Vance wasn't able to answer Walz's question about Trump's involvement in the January 6th riots and was not able to admit Trump had lost the 2020 election. I was glad that Walz went into great detail about Trump's effort in trying to get rid of Obamacare without a plan to replace it with something better. Walz was too kind in his detailing that people like Trump do not pay their taxes while the middle class pays their taxes. I did have one funny thought during the debate. It was when Walz was scratching his right ear. I said to myself...please do not stick your finger in your ear or stick a finger in your nose. In some ways, it was a boring debate and I wouldn't be surprise if their debate get low viewership ratings. wrbtrader
Jan 6 happened. I mean was there anything he could have said that would have changed your mind about it? I doubt it. So that's a meaningless point. I think he handled it the best it can be handled. No?
Vance was polished, delivered coherent informative answers. Walz didn't completely shit the bed so that is considered victory. Vance missed his chance early on while Walz was clearly discombobulated. Attack, attack, attack is what he should have done. He didn't, Walz got his footing and the remainder of the debate looked like two guys doing some light sparring with 24oz. gloves. A tie at best which is a loss for Trump. None of it matters if the Jews go hard into Lebanon or directly strike Iran. If the ILA strike is still active this time next week won't anyone be talking about this debate. Unlikely it moved the needle.
I know what happened on January 6th, 2021. I know who should be held accountable, who wanted to hang the Vice President and I know who will respect my vote without trying to disenfranchise my vote. Maybe you're not aware that there are Independents (Undecided Voters) still trying to decide which party to vote for various reasons in comparison to another Independent. Thus, it's their minds that Walz and Vance are trying to change. Regardless, Independents are focusing on immigration, some focusing on healthcare, some focusing on foreign policy, some focusing on abortion, some focusing on the cost of living, some focusing on the rule of law, some focusing on Democracy (Jan 6th, 2021) et cetera. The no answer by Vance will help some Independents to determine their vote just like which party voted against giving FEMA more dollars to their job before the arrival of Hurricane Helen will determine the votes of some Independents. Simply, depending upon what's occurring in their lives...voters are sensitive to some issues while not really caring about other issues that determine their vote Luckily for Vance...Vance is not a convicted felon with criminal trials still pending. Thus, that's arguably one of the reasons why Walz and Vance were so friendly with each other during the debate along with the fact that Walz doesn't have a prosecutor's background. In reality, both Vance and Walz didn't fuck up to sway a large number of Independents one way or the other but they did say said some meaningful things to sway some Independents. Therefore, I will assume most of us eventually became bored and changed the TV channel, watched a movie or tuned in late into the debate. P.S. I did notice the spouses came onto the debate stage at the completion of the debate to greet them. I do not think that occurred at the end of the Harris/Trump debate unless I'm mistaken. I wouldn't be surprised if Vance and Walz went out to dinner together after they left the "spin room" to laugh about protests in China or people eating pets in Ohio. wrbtrader
Undecided Voter Tells CNN He’s Voting for Kamala Harris After Watching Vance’s Remarks About 2020 Election in CBS Debate All seven of you came in undecided. One of you said they’d made up their mind,” said CNN correspondent Phil Mattingly to a group of undecided voters following Tuesday’s CBS vice presidential debate. “Ryan, who are you gonna vote for, and what kind of solidified that opinion?” The formerly undecided voter replied, “Well, I’m gonna be voting for Kamala Harris. You know, one of the stark sort of aspects of that debate that really stuck with me was when they were talking about January 6 and how Mike Pence certified the election, and they were wondering if JD Vance would certify the election should Trump lose, and you know, JD Vance didn’t really give us a definitive answer.” He concluded, “I’m disappointed in that fact, and I don’t think that I can trust someone, you know, with my vote if they’re not gonna respect it.” https://www.mediaite.com/tv/undecid...es-remarks-about-2020-election-in-cbs-debate/
Decent debate, actually. Walz filled in a lot of substance on policy and positions for Harris. Harris can grab on to some of it in the larger discussion to close out the campaign. Vance gave a competent image, which is needed. I don’t know how much he helped Trump because Trump is going to Trump. While he was slippery he gave enough of an image of regretting some past positions that it will serve him well into the future. Close enough to a tie that was probably nil. Highlights for Walz was immigration. He effectively reminded everyone watching Trump torpedoed legislation for border immigration for political reasons. Vance was a bit redundant but he got much of the economic stuff to stick. Waltz had to rely on Minnesota rather Harris to rebut. Not very effective.
I don't think it will sway anyone regardless. Still, it was nice to see a civil debate, reminiscent of the debates 15 years or so ago. And it was nice to see them talk about actual issues rather than stupid crap.
