If the economy recovers, some of this will be long forgotten. It still doesn't erase ideological differences. The next 12 to 18 months should give you the answer, if nothing else catatrophic happens, we may be able to pull out of it. I am skeptical, but hopeful.
The evidence suggests a correlation between the amount of stimulus and the speed of the recovery. The US falls in the middle compared to the rest of the world. Countries with stronger stimulus packages are coming out of the worldwide recession faster.
