Biden to end US support for Saudi-led offensive in Yemen

(AP) - President Joe Biden announced Thursday the United States was ending support for a grinding five-year Saudi-led military offensive in Yemen that has deepened suffering in the Arabian peninsula’s poorest country, calling the move part of restoring a U.S. emphasis on diplomacy, democracy and human rights.

“The war has created a humanitarian and strategic catastrophe,” Biden told diplomats in his first visit to the State Department as president. “This war has to end.”

The Yemen reversal is one of a series of changes Biden laid out Thursday that he said would be part of a course correction for U.S. foreign policy. That’s after President Donald Trump — and some Republican and Democratic administrations before his — often aided authoritarian leaders abroad in the name of stability.

Regardless of how you feel about endless wars in the ME, this is a win for Iran.

Is Biden going to remove the terrorist designation from the Houthis?

Did Trump/Pompeo designate them a terrorist organization as the door was hitting their fat asses on their way out? Do bears shit in the woods?

Goodwill with Iran is how JCOPA gets reinstated.

Another military victory for the Biden administration. Way to go Joe.

US Warship "Expelled" From South China Sea By PLA Forces

The superpower clash between China and the U.S. continued on Friday as a U.S. Navy ship sailed near the Chinese-controlled Paracel Islands in the heavily disrupted South China Sea, only to get an stern rebuke (and what some would call, an appropriate response) from Beijing.

The USS John S. McCain, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, entered the waters near Paracel islands Friday without China's permission on a "freedom of navigation operation," the first known operation in the heavily disputed area under the new Biden administration.

Shortly after, CGTN reported that the People's Liberation Army (PLA) "expelled" the destroyer after it "trespassed" into China's territorial waters. Tian Junli, a spokesperson for the PLA Southern Theater Command, said the move "seriously infringed China's sovereignty and security." He said PLA troops in the region are on "high alert at all times to protect the peace and stability of the region."

  6. The peace loving Democrats looking to start a war. We have no business sailing war ships in that area other than to provoke. There are plenty of reasons to play tough with China, but this is just unnecessary saber rattling which could go wrong in a big way very quickly.

USS John S. McCain 'Expelled' From South China Sea, Claims Chinese Military

The Chinese military said it "expelled" the USS John S. McCain from the South China Sea after the U.S. Navy destroyer "trespassed" in the disputed waters of the Spratly Islands.

The Pentagon denied the People's Liberation Army's version of events, telling Newsweek that its freedom of navigation operation was done "in accordance with international law," and that interactions with the Chinese Navy "had no impact" on its mission.

China claims historic rights over almost all of the islands in the South China Sea and their surrounding waters. In 2016, it rejected a Permanent Court of Arbitration ruling stating the opposite.

YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan – The guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain steamed through the Taiwan Strait on Thursday, marking the Navy’s first trip through the contentious waterway in 2021, according to a Navy statement.

Seventh Fleet spokesman Lt. Joe Keiley called the sail “routine” and “in accordance with international law.”

“The ship's transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the U.S. commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific,” he said in the statement.
