  1. Hi Scientist,

True, I haven't checked as of late, but this is the price I have seen advertised. I agree with you about not being very hot on J.

I only was soothing John a bit with his feeling of being ripped off and missing seven levels.

    Be good Scientist,

  2. Glad to hear you're using it successfully. Fwiw, I find the ButtonTrader plugin for TWS better than J-Trader, and better than X_Trader for that matter. I will have to switch to X_Trader soon, and really regret it, will probably keep an IB acct and Button open running on an extra monitor.

That said, the J-Trader API probably has potential, and J-Trader probably executes a little faster than IB's TWS. But then, IB now introduced FIX, and the whole thing starts over again...

  3. No worries nononsense,

You could check VelocityFutures, they have relatively low rates and offer J-Trader free I think. And AdvancedFutures. Actually, I think there's several brokers offering on ET this. Velocity also offers X_Trader for $550 afaik, the same price FFastTrade offers their very good RemotePro for. $750 for any kind of platform (particularly J-Trader?) seems perverse. But then, if you can get it for free, you can't really complain...

    Best to you,
    Scientist

  4. Nononsense - I don't pay any platform fee for J-Trader.
Scientist - it may not be X-Trader, but J-Trader is pretty darned good. Not that it never happens, but I haven't seen a single disconnect in a long time now. The quotes are free, even faster than IB, and tick-by-tick. J-Trader is a better platform than TWS IMO, but I agree that if you have an IB front-end that you like, then giving it up is hard.

Anyway, the above topics got away from my original question which no bugger has answered! I see 10 levels of DAX in J-Trader. IB charge a 12 Euro/month fee to see Eurex market depth, and then according to Ditch, they only display 5 levels.

    Who can explain the difference?

  5. Hi John,

I did what I could. Although I can't explain the difference, I don't care for the extra 7 levels. Let me quickly add that I respect divergent opinions on this.

I am not unhappy enough yet about IB to dump them. As I am 100% in the API corner, I know about IB's shortcomings but the rest of the pack gave me a lot more headaches up till now. Be sure I'll keep on trying and one day I'll switch, I'm sure. I also share your concern about costs of all nature, but many factors enter into a decision to move. Not too many people at ET writing about the things I am doing right now get up to 20,000RT's a month I'm affraid. Many write about greener pastures but trade at IB's!

    Be good,

  6. Excuse my talking to myself(!). Scientist - you've surely got an opinion on this. When looking at cumulative volume, you're only looking at five levels because that's all that IB sends, right?

So how many levels are there coming out of Eurex anyway? I see 10 in J-Trader (presumably 10 in X-Trader too). This is potentially a big difference if you are interested in looking at cumulative volume: one side vs the other.

Def - you reading? Why only five levels from IB if Eurex actually sends 10?

  7. Interesting thread.

Notice lots of people find the Dax follows the ES.

I was very surprised to see lots of Dax charts posted on the www.lbrgroup.com site (Linda bradford Rascke), talking about the Dax leading the Sp.

Interesting as they are very seasoned Sp traders.

    Scientist,

May a neophyte ask what percentage of your gross profit is paid in commissions? The reason for the question being that I am wondering whether it is more lucrative to broke rather than trade.

  9. interesting. I was on the LBR website today. I also read an article about her in the Traders magazine.

Has anyone heard about her success, or heard about her training, or chat room calls?
