  3. We truckers are the heart of America. If you have it, we probably delivered it. If we ain't happy, nobody is happy!

The last time truckers got a bug up their butt, chose to strike even though they were doing well, it was the 1970s. Congress decided to deregulate as in making the industry more competitive, causing freight rates to drop and lowering truckers' standard of living. Same situation exists today. Freight rates are sky-high, truckers are doing very well, yet they are bitching? There is one major difference this time around. Self driving trucks and plans for truck only corridors. Transportation and material handling, think AMZN, among others, is a huge beneficiary of automation. In fact, self driving trucks are on the roads now, with drivers in the seat on standby in case there is a systemic issue.

Sigh, America is on its way to becoming heartless.

The funny part is these clowns complaining about D.C. traffic while they attempt to slow it down -- when they aren't getting lost. Now they think they have "millions" of followers -- when they couldn't even get a dozen people to show up at their earlier staged event in D.C. If these clowns want to "fight for freedom" I have an idea for them -- it involves getting a visa to the Ukraine.

DC truckers insist they have ‘millions’ of supporters at meeting only attended by two lawmakers

‘We’re gonna keep looping the Beltway until we were heard. That hasn’t changed anything,’ organiser says

One of the members of the “People’s Convoy” has claimed they had “millions” of people supporting them along the way as they drove from California to Washington, DC.

Members of the convoy, which is protesting vaccine mandates and other public health pandemic restrictions, met with Republican Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin at the US Capitol on Tuesday.

“When you’re driving under these overpasses and you look up at the people’s faces and millions, millions... it was tens of thousands and then turned to hundreds of thousands ... I have never seen a presidential candidate, or at any level, have what we just had,” one member of the convoy told the senators. “And I think that speaks volumes.”

“We’ve already won because we’ve opened their hearts and once their hearts are open they can’t be closed,” he added. “I’m really upset that none of our congressmen and senators and stuff like that ever came out to give us the time of day up till this point and we appreciate you guys so much for that.”

Mr Johnson noted that he was elected amid the success of the Tea Party movement within the Republican Party in 2010. “I still don’t belong here, quite honestly,” he said. “But my rallying cry means that you do belong here. The rallying cry back then was that this is a fight for freedom. It’s not someone else’s fight. It’s our fight. It’s a fight we have to win.”

He added that the People’s Convoy “is way more powerful” than the Tea Party movement. “And I think it’s far less partisan.”

Mr Cruz said that the convoy was made up of “men and women of every race and creed” who “are standing up for freedom, standing up for a very basic and simple principle that it ought to be your decision how to live your life”.

“It ought to be your decision how to treat your body and what to do with your own health. And in crisis, character reveals itself,” he added. “And in the age of Covid, we have seen too many petty tyrants who believe they have the power to make personal health care decisions for you, and even worse, to make health care decisions for your kids.”

The meeting came as the convoy continued taking laps around the DC Beltway in a bid to stifle traffic after its efforts to do so the two days prior were thwarted by regular commuters who broke up the chain of protesters.

But People’s Convoy organiser Brian Brase told reporters they’re committed to being heard.

“We’ve made it pretty clear what our plans are,” Mr Brase said in response to a question from The Daily Beast. “We’re gonna keep looping the Beltway until we were heard. That hasn’t changed anything.”

He added that it was “day three now doing that”.

“We’re currently riding to two wide occupying two lanes,” he said, estimating that the convoy is “probably about six, seven miles long”.

“The first day we did it, we were 64 miles long, because we occupied one lane,” he said.

“We’re not going anywhere. We’re not gonna leave. We’re gonna keep doing what we’re doing until we start getting more meetings like we just had today,” he added.

“Our demands, you want to say, have been pretty clear. End the state emergency, end the vaccine mandates,” Mr Brase told the press. “Let’s start holding both our elected and unelected officials accountable for their actions that led to this, through bipartisan congressional hearings and investigations into the origins of the pandemic. And the federal government’s and state governments’ response to this pandemic.”

More than 959,000 Americans have died from Covid-19, according to data compiled by The New York Times. According to figures from Our World In Data, more than 77 per cent of Americans have received at least one dose. More than 65 per cent are fully vaccinated, and almost 29 per cent have received a booster shot.

Yes... it is an opinion piece -- but it does a fine job of mocking these idiots. The entire crowd of them.

Big Dumb Convoy Members Meet With Big Dumb Senators Cruz, Johnson

A bunch of spoiled brats calling themselves the “People’s Convoy” circled the Washington DC Beltway for more than four hours Sunday in defiant protest of pandemic restrictions that mostly don’t exist. The organizers’ stated goal was to be a “huge pain,” but they couldn’t even manage that. The disruption they caused Sunday was reportedly minimal.

The anti-vaxx MAGA parade of trucks, cars, and SUVs started out in a deliberately slow-moving crawl that stretched about 30 miles, but it just sort of fizzled into nothing after merging with normal Beltway traffic. That was Sunday, though. Monday, the convoy planned to obstruct commuter-heavy traffic. Less than a year ago, Florida Republicans made this sort of traffic “protest” a felony, but the convoy isn’t protesting police violence, which still occurs. They’re clogging traffic over vaccine mandates that are literally scheduled to end soon.

Check out just one of these American heroes, who for some reason showed up dressed like an extra from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Sir Covid declared: "I believe [the convoy’s] a people’s crusade ... People have to fight the evil in the world, and people have to band together and fight on the side of the Lord.”

People’s Convoy organizer Brian Brase claims, "We are law-abiding citizens that are just exercising our rights to this protest,” although I’m not sure how legal it is to deliberately obstruct traffic.

Naturally, Ted Cruz and Ron Johnson were eager to take a ride on the convoy. The GOP senators announced Monday that they’d meet with the truckers to discuss “to discuss the harmful effects of President Biden’s vaccine mandates.” The "M*A*S*H” series finale is a more relevant topic at this point.

During the meeting, Cruz told the truckers that what they’re doing is “incredibly important,” even though it’s not clear what they’re actually doing beyond clogging traffic. Cruz himself is a professionally annoying, self-important gasbag, so it makes sense that he’d admire these guys.

Cruz ranted to the truckers about Canadian tyranny, which was absurdly overblown even before an actual authoritarian despot rained hell on a sovereign nation. It’s not surprising that Cruz fails to rise to the seriousness of this moment.

CRUZ: We’ve seen ... particularly concerning COVID-19 and mandates. We’ve seen a particularly nasty combination of government authoritarians. We saw this in Canada, with Canadian politicians reaching out to their buddies in Big Tech and GoFundMe to steal $10 million from truckers.

That’s a damn lie. GoFundMe, a private company, didn’t wants its platform used to help finance illegal activity. That’s not theft. It didn’t keep the money. Cruz also falsely claimed that White House press secretary Jen Psaki demanded Spotify “pull Joe Rogan down.” She actually just supported the channel’s decision to include content warnings on his more medically idiotic broadcasts.

Cruz could’ve told the truckers the truth — that COVID-19 restrictions are ending across the nation. Instead, he just fanned the flames and made the situation worse. That’s a habit of his. We don’t need to imagine how he’d respond if Democratic senators from Virginia and Maryland went to Texas and egged on leftwing protests that disrupted residents’ commutes.

Brase told reporters after meeting with Cruz and Johnson: "We’re going to keep looping the Beltway until we’re heard. We’re not going anywhere.” He’s paid full price for his tantrum and he plans to see it through. He did acknowledge the mask mandates that have been lifted but absurdly took credit for them. The same brain trust that isn’t so sure masking reduces COVID-19 transmission have no problem connecting a change in COVID-19 policy with the timing of their convoy launch.

I can’t even with these people.
