Agree...however, some of my scalps are so "short" in time and profit that I call them an anticipation of a rise in prices or decline in prices. I'm not sure you would call ANY rise in price an uptrend or any fall in prices a downtrend...degree/length of move is an issue. It's all probably a semantics thing. Yes, it's awesome to exchange experiences with a veteran of the markets! Thanks Much![/QUOTE]
A nice poem, but complete nonsense. For me markets are rather 80% trending. You probably could only find 20%.
For me a trend is only a trend if there is enough potential to make a reasonable profit for a reasonable risk. Even in tick charts you can see "trends", but they are so small that they are not exploitable. All trends in timeframes smaller than 15 minutes I don't even watch. And there are plenty of trends left to make money every day.
To participate successfuly & consistently in intraday trends one has to find market inefficiencies revealed by factors that are present during trend cycles. Good luck finding those! I'm still searching.
I believe that intraday, One has to trade the microstructure. Trend is for swing trading. However, that's my opinion. Looking for trends intraday is like looking for kilometers among centimeters.
So it is impossble to find a intraday trend? And you look for kilometers among centimeters? If you watch the ES of yesterday you probably feel you are very stupid, no? +40 points trending waves. Trending market for almost all day.
Everybody will have moments that he feels stupid, that's normal. Be smart, understand that you were wrong and there are trends and try to find them. That would be smart. But I agree, as long as you don't find an edge, it looks like it is impossible to trade intraday. It took me years to find an edge.
This is brilliant, just brilliant. Yes, lets all put up a hindsight chart, mark every swing, count them all up, and tell everyone they are stupid for not seeing it. Next thing you know, you're going to be selling a newsletter that will arrive in our inbox, the next day, to tell us all the points we could have made if we just bought every swing low and sold every swing high! While you're at it, why not just tell us how many of these mythical 40 points you managed to capture?
