This was the start of a previous post. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by Publias "Actions do not cling to me because I am not attached to their results. Do you have kids Mr.Publias??? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was not an answer to say that over time one can become further detached from reality. Again you may work on it though meditation or whatever, but so what. I can get in the zone in many ways. Surfing and other sports, creative endeavors and even trading can bring one to the zone but so what. The concept of recognizing or denying self is not practical or useful for excellence in competition whether it be trading or sports. One must recognize and become aware of self and work with self to respond to situations properly not deny self. Practice, plan and drill. Pro athletes prepare to succeed at each level and then as they succeed on the buy.com tour they become ready for the pga tour. Professionals involved in competition, plan and drill. They know they will feel the choke or performance anxiety but they have routines that they have drilled into their games so that their nerves have less of an effect on their performance. None of they claim they are so detached they do not feel the moment (except for the zone which may happen occasionally but rarely lasts through crunch time). Ever follow a golfers routine before he hits a drive or strikes a putt. You can tell when they are likely to mess up because they take an unusual amount of time over the ball. Pros and their coaches dropped the specious zen junk years ago. They do not fall into the seductive but mistaken belief that by working on their awareness they can eliminate their ego/self and perform complex tasks under pressure like a zen master. They grind and drill. So please let us stop implying that by studying eastern thought traders will become better traders. Instead explain to traders your edge and drill it into them. Maybe after succesful trading a philosophy may be a useful for some traders but enough of all this eastern religious stuff. Let us see trading results and discuss how they are achieved. Now for my religious editorial which is consistent with my belief about self. (To be transformed and not ignored). Pax/Peace is a great state and there is one true way to achieve it and the great irony is that so many people do not even endeavor to even study the truth because of the very ego they are trying to lose.
Jem, there is no denying that without an edge in trading, or innate athletic ability in sport, one cannot succeed. But what about those who have ability and don't make the grade. Is it not more about psychology and less about the drill. What about a John Daly? Under achieving talented headcase is a lexicon of the times. Why do top hitters go after so many bad pitches. Why do guys in sports and trading (all the same game) rotate from slump to streak to slump. You can't tell me it's random. My equity may look random but I know in my heart of hearts that virtually every mistake I make is less one of technique and more of mental. I only wish I could blame the markets, or the difficulty of the course, or that pitchers unhittable stuff, but when you've got the goods and you don't make it work you'd better look within.
Jem, I am Commisso, we have gone round and round in circles many times before... Your opening line about being detached from reality tells me that you know NOTHING of the teachings you are attempting to converse with me about... The revolving theme and arguably the entire essence of the 'The Bhagavad Gita' is to do exactly what you said! To recognize and cultivate ones self, which is not to be confused with ones "ego"... So in actuality Jem through your ignorance in regards to The Gita, you are arguing for the main pillar which holds the entire teaching up... I cannot understand what would compel you guys (U, Dan, and Stu) to come onto this thread and try to tell me how wrong the teachings are when not one of you have actually picked up the books to read and most importantly understand them Dan if ever you needed an example of ego here it is, but see guys this is the worst type of combination the ego can spawn; for it is arrogance coupled with ignorance, which is something I absolutely LOATHE! Now my journal of my trades for the day has taken me almost 2 1/2 hrs, because I am soo busy responding to this drivel from you guys... Please no more posts in regards to any and all passages that I post on this thread unless you have first taken the time to try and understand the teachings they are based on first! Actually never mind, anything I post on this thread will be my words only! Publias
Jem why is your mind stuck in such a dualistic mode of thought??? Why must one drop the technical side if he is to also look inward??? Ancient Samurai who originally "created" Zen as a mix of Taoists and Buhdists teachings spent countless hours perfecting their skills! If one merely wants to grab a few bucks than maybe just the techincal side is indeed enough... BUT I assure you that if you want to get on the path toward mastery you are going to have to look inward as well as outward... The synergistic result of both will propel one to greatness! FREE YOU MIND JEM... And just for clarification Zen & Taoism are NOT religions... Publias Oh and maybe you havent heard, but Phil Jackson's life purpose is to blend Zen and self-awareness into his coaching... The entire triangle offense is based around Zen... I don't about you but I'ssay he has done a pretty damn good job so far!
Publias- you sucked me in to your stuff with a change of name. Almost every time I have questioned your posts- instead of a substantive response you evade and attack. Perhaps I really would like to engage in a reasonable discussion. Yet, no response yet to my questions about kids. You will note that frequently when you have made what I consider to be feeble assertions I have only asked for reasoned responses. Yet no answers. How about professional athletes and how they meet there performance goals. Publias - no answer. This is my last comment to you on the subject of this eastern stuff because clearly you can not handle a challenge. But before I go let me point out your hypocrisy. I have trouble believing you are stating that I have no education in the subject matter after you just ripped into a previous poster for making assumptions about you. To paraphrase you- How dare you assume I am ignorant of this subject matter. I have played down my understanding in an attempt to engage an immature mind (I suspected you were young) I purposely chose the words I used about reality to get you to explain your beliefs, not because I have not read the subject matter. I would not challenge you if I had not already read some of this stuff and found it specious My real goals were to find out what makes people choose to embrace eastern concepts. You have not even come close to helping me understand anything. You quote and run. I someday plan to write about the approaches that have helped me and I was hoping to get insight from you. But all I you have given me vapor. Thanks
OK Jem lets talk... In regards to the kids I already stated I have none... Me talking about the subject would be comparable to Rs7 describing the color red (he is color blind)... As for the professional athletes, I suppose they do exactly what I do, which is to go out and constantly strive to perfect my techinical skills, while attempting to cultivate an inner peace and strength... Again Jem I do not simply downplay technical skill because I embrace inner skill, that is your dualistic mode of thought casting that perception... Again Jem FREE YOUR MIND! As for my "wrong" assumption... you down play your understanding, showing pure ignorance on the matter... how am I to assume any differently ... ask away, just make sure the questions are in accord with the teachings you are asking about... Actually go back and re-read your post, you did not ask a single question... It was more like a rant to tell me how "right" you are and how "wrong" the teachings were... Now if you have a genuine desire to understand the passages or would like to ask me a question regarding how I apply them to trading, than I invite you to have an open discussion with me...BUT Jem if the only purpose your posts serve is to tell me how silly "my way" is and how superior "your way" is, than why waste either of our times??? PEACE and good trading, Publias
blah blah blah this is boring the shiat out of me, mr smokey_mcPaat- i find no enjoyment here, just ramblings from some guy who thinks he is cool cause he can use colors in his fonts- dude you are the envy of everyone in elitetrader- i bet they all sit up at night wondering how you do that, you cwwwwaaaazzzzzyyyyy kid. go out, get laid, live life- im really bored here- later
same old crap? Say one thing mean another and bat back with gratuitous aggressive insult, hit & run hit & run Publias / Commissio whatever - don't you have an identity you can stick with - you have a 1000 books on your shelf to feed your ego or your knowledge, or perhaps to hide behind? If you have read some of the ones you say you have, then maybe you might not be so defensive and easy to rile. Just how do you know if I or any of the other posters here have not read these subjects. It's the same old egotistical attack. Accuse others with that with which you offend most. If you think I misunderstood what you were saying, why not explain properly instead of the impatient egotistic attacks. smokey has it right, you really should get a life you don't sound like you have yet learned how mellow. You sound sad. There you go, a nice attack on you, ah now you attack me then I .... geeez. You think you are the one to explain passages from eastern text? Now there's ego for you yeah...and you should remove the word Peace from your sig it misrepresents your purpose
proves my point...... why don't you offer to discuss substance in the first place instead of the pathetic abuse you instinctively dish out From these posts it appears jem's mind is much more FREE than yours.
