  1. My 3% bodyfat reading was given me by a certified physical therapist who used calipers. I'm unusually healthy; getting tested in water would be only vanity. Pasta is made from durum wheat flour which has very different GI number than soft wheat--the kind traded in Chicago and used in pastries. In any case, Adkins is wrong: I eat 4oz of pasta daily and have extremely low body fat.

  2. Well, I'm fairly out of my depth when it comes to the more advanced aspects of diet, endocrinology and such. So, I'd best bow out and assume a spectator role for the remainder of this exchange. Carry on.

Wow. That is sort of the diet I've been trying for though I'm not in hardcore mode. I've went from 5'11 190 pounds to 170 pounds the last year and a half. But my body fat is still pretty bad at 22%.

I eat greens, nuts, lean turkey, whey protein powder mixed into nonfat organic milk (what do you mix it with btw?), some salmon, whole wheat bread, and whole wheat pasta. I drink Club Soda almost constantly.

However, I drink alchohol probably too much and I think that is reducing my weight-loss goals so I've recently cut down and it seems to be helping. Also, I eat restaurant food twice a week, and I eat lots of things that aren't on the diet such as pizza. I was eating Taco Bell bean burritos once a week for lunch until I found out they have trans fat, so just a week ago I stopped.

For exercise, I do simple weight lifting for 30 minutes 3 times a week and walk or jog twice a week for 30 minutes.

I think part of the challenge is knowing your body well enough to differentiate when you are: not hungry at all but want to eat because you are bored; being a little hungry and wanting to eat; and being extremely hungry to the point it is putting you in a bit of a bad mood.

My goal is to lose another 10 pounds, 2 inches on my waist, and 4% body fat. It sounds like your diet is working great for you. How long have you been on it? Is it difficult for you to stick to it on holidays, dinners out, and on cruises? That's the most difficult part for me as eating and drinking is part of the social experience. I'm trying to get better at that.

  4. Whey protein powder is a complete protein, but too quickly absorbed. Egg white or hydrolyzed casein is far preferable due to a longer digestion cycle.

  5. I've had this diet for about seven years. Cut the alcohol, unless you get huge benefits. I've a lady friend who gets great, clear benefits from drinking. I odn't drink, as I get only a mild "buzz" or headaches from alcohol. Brain chemistry differs sharply among races: note huge percentage of alcoholics among Irish and Indians. Also, races crave different foods. Europeans crave dairy foods and high carb foods. Hence Euros find losing weight extremely difficult and painful. The pain comes from denying a craving. Caesar observed 2000 years ago: Britanni et carne et lacte vivunt: the Britons live on milk and meat. He observed also the same of Germans and Celts. Romans ate no meat or dairy. As I'm of Japanese ancestry, I've a huge edge over Euros in living healthfully. It is a fact that Japanese life expectancy at all ages is much higher than Euro life expectancy.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, alchohol doesn't give me headaches, but I can tell that even in small amounts it isn't good for me. I enjoy it too much to entirely cut it though, but I'm trying to at least sharply reduce it.

Is milk really that unhealthy? I've read things both ways on milk. I have it every morning for breakfast (with the whey protein mixed in). Maybe I will try to mix the whey protein with water instead and see if I notice any difference.

Thanks again, that is very encouraging! I feel I'm on track in the long term but some tweaking here and there will help me get there much faster.

  7. Sweden's life expectancy is 80.3 with Japan's at 81.0. France is in the 79s with Germany at 78+. I hardly see your "huge edge" You do have an edge in limbo-dancing, however.

  8. I'd avoid a lot of dairy, skim milk if you must. Soy is heart-healthy, but very estrogenic. If you want tits, then drink a lot of soy.

two things one, my reversal indicator said get out of goog also. It is called red in my P&L column.

Secondly. Interestingly (as stated Indians) and Eskimos are supposed to be of asian extract and they do seem to have problems with alcohol. Like my people.

    Why do God invent alcohol.

To keep the Irish from taking over the world.

I don't want to bother this wonderful meeting of Fat Anonymus, but what if we move the diet related talk into the chit-chat section? You guys could rename the thread any of the following titles: (choose one)

    -- Biggest loser

    -- Surfboy sweatpants

    -- The South Google diet

-- How I lost 50 pounds by shorting Google, (and you can too!)

(I apologize for the interruption but I have high metabolism and I can not gain weight, thus the fatenvy) :)
