I said I have 14 watches... not 14 "lux" watches. Actually I have none of those. Most of mine are from impulse buys (like the one with Bugs Bunny on the face) or for having bowled award scores way back when. My Cyma and Tag, while still overpriced... are very nice, but I don't consider them to be lux. Regardless of what they cost, they all keep time about the same.[/QUOTE] Sorry I miss understood. Actually have reread the thread its about these very expensive and very long to make watches and I was a bit off topic. My example was more about general collecting being a decent investment. These watches of the OP are really over the top and I can't really wrap my head around it. And yes, actually 14 lux watches is also a over the top and I can't really see that either. I was just thinking about good investments and trying to justify it in that capacity. My motorcycles are, I think, investments.. none cost over $5000 and I have owned 3 at the most at one time, but sell and buy again old ones to fix up...try to keep it as a realistic investment interest as much as possible and stay in the black or flat on the money side.
I love watches and have a small collection. They make great rewards when times are good in the market.

Wonder if Lugar will bid. "Part art part science". Swiss watch to sell for millions by WKRC "The Asprey", a legendary vintage Patek Philippe watch, will go on the auction block next week in Geneva, where it could fetch $2 million to $4 million, Sotheby's said on Wednesday. (Reuters/CBS Newspath) VIEW PHOTO GALLERY 5 photos GENEVA, Switzerland (WKRC/Reuters/CBS Newspath) - "The Asprey", a legendary vintage Patek Philippe watch, will go on the auction block next week in Geneva, where it could fetch $2 million to $4 million, Sotheby's said on Wednesday. Made in 1952 and sold four years later, the Swiss luxury wristwatch is the star lot among 250 watches and pocket watches on offer at Tuesday evening's sale. "This particular watch was first on the market in 2006 and sold by Sotheby's in Geneva for 2.2 million Francs ($2.21 million), which made it the world record price for this particular reference," said Sam Hines, Global Head of Sotheby's Watch Division. "And since then, it's become a sort of legendary watch amongst collectors and the watch community." The original owner, whose initials, R.C. are engraved on the back of the watch's yellow gold case, probably received it for his 21st birthday. But has not been identified, the auction house said. The $2.21 million was a record for the reference at the time, Sotheby's said. Worn on a brown leather strap, it offers the day and date, a stop watch and phases of the moon. "The watch is a perpetual calendar chronograph and it is unique in that it was retailed by the famous London retailer Asprey," said Hines. "The watch is in pristine condition, it has never been polished and it is the greatest quality one can find."
