CA Dem Gov Newsom Ordered To Pay $1.35 Million For COVID-19 Discrimination Against Churches
    https://trendingpolitics.com/ca-dem...for-covid-19-discrimination-against-churches/

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom was ordered by a federal judge to pay 1.35 million dollars for his religious discrimination against churches during the California pandemic lockdown.

In addition to paying the attorney fees for the Harvest Rock Church, which filed suit against him. U.S. District Court Judge Jesus Bernal also ruled that state restrictions on houses of worship would be permitted only if child infections rose 100%, statewide cases are at least 26 per 100,000 people, or available ICU hospital bed capacity falls below 20%, according to the Washington Examiner.

“Any new public health precautions on religious worship services and gatherings at places of worship not in the guidance [are included],” Bernal ruled.

Latest Poll Shows CA Dem Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thin Ice With Recall Vote
    https://trendingpolitics.com/latest-poll-shows-ca-dem-gov-gavin-newsom-on-thin-ice-with-recall-vote/
Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom is now closer than ever before to possibly being removed from his seat.

And a new poll reveals that he should be very worried about the possibility that he will be ousted from the governor’s mansion.

According to a new UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll, 47 percent of likely voters in California support removing Newsom from office.

The poll found that 50 percent oppose the move, which is still not great news for a Democratic governor in arguably the most liberal state in the country.

The new york times this morning said San Diego wants is in favor of recalling this whimsical pre- fascist...

    --

Good morning. Californians will soon vote on whether to recall their Democratic governor. Could he actually lose?

    California’s pandemic recall
California Republicans began the effort to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom before the pandemic upended everything. But without a doubt, the pandemic enabled the recall: The courts gave organizers more time to collect the necessary signatures, and Newsom’s handling of the pandemic, including his visit to a swanky restaurant in wine country amid his own lockdown orders, eroded his support.

When the state lifted restrictions earlier this summer, Newsom all but declared the pandemic over, celebrating with Minions and robots at Universal Studios in Hollywood. His political future looked rosy, too. Democratic leaders in the state lined up behind him, and many agreed that the sooner they could get the recall election done, the better the results would be for Newsom.

Now, with the vote just weeks away, the biggest threats to Newsom seem clear — and they are not the Republican candidates. The governor is being forced to grapple with multiple crises all at once, including a resurgence of Covid-19 cases, one of the worst droughts in state history and out-of-control wildfires. By definition, a recall is a referendum on the incumbent; in effect, Newsom is running against himself.

It is hardly surprising that he and other Democrats have portrayed the recall effort as an extension of Trumpism, painting opponents as right-wing outliers in a deeply blue state. And the numbers in the state clearly favor Democrats, who have a firm hold on state government and far outnumber Republicans in voter registration. The anti-recall campaign has raised more money than all of the Republican candidates combined. Indeed, Republicans have not won a statewide office since 2006 (the year Arnold Schwarzenegger was re-elected governor, after winning in a 2003 recall).

But polling shows that Republicans are far more fired up about the election than Democrats. And this is where things get complicated. Are Democrats so confident that they will not even bother to cast their ballots? Two recent polls have really shaken Democrats in the state — one found that likely voters statewide are almost evenly split, the other that voters in San Diego support recalling Newsom.

A recall election is relatively easy in California — just a handful of states have a similar process, and almost none have a lower threshold to get it on the ballot. Still, successful recalls are rare — the last statewide one happened in 2003 — and polls suggest most voters want to make it more difficult.

But if a majority of voters choose to remove Newsom from office, the challenger with the most votes will take his place. With dozens of Republicans on the ballot, that means a candidate with, say, just 20 percent of the vote could win. (Larry Elder, a conservative talk radio host leads in some polls with around 18 percent.)

As Chris Lehane, a Democratic political strategist who worked in state politics during the last recall effort, put it: “There’s no arguing there’s voter fatigue.”

“The last four years was an incredibly exhausting experience,” he said, adding that the state’s Democratic voters “need to realize that this recall is by no means a slam dunk,” or they risk waking up to the same kind of shock they faced after the 2016 election.

It’s a cliché to say that California is America’s future, but there is no question that a Republican win in the deep blue state would have reverberations nationally. It is a point that Newsom is making to rally his supporters, arguing that a successful recall would provoke more attempts to oust elected officials.

CA Gov. Newsom Panics over Recall Election, Threatens That Democrats Will Suffer Should He Lose
    https://trendingpolitics.com/ca-gov...ns-that-democrats-will-suffer-should-he-lose/
Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom is now closer than ever before to possibly being removed from his seat.

While speaking to the Sacramento Bee, Newsom said he had no regrets about his tenure in office or any of the decisions he has made, particularly regarding draconian lockdowns for over a year.

    From the Sacramento Bee:
He said he’s particularly proud of the record-breaking education spending he negotiated with lawmakers this year in the budget, which implements a host of policies, including adding a new grade to California schools called transitional kindergarten and increases funding for summer school.

“If they kick me out. I’m gonna feel good about what we just did, and not ever regret a damn thing,” he said. “We put it all out there on this education budget.”

    Newsom down by double digits...

    https://www.sfgate.com/gavin-newsom...som-recall-losing-Elder-Paffrath-16364991.php

Just prior to the start of the first televised debate in the Gavin Newsom recall election Wednesday evening, a shock poll showed the governor losing the first question ("Should Gavin Newsom be recalled?") by double digits.

The poll came from Survey USA and the San Diego Union Tribune, and was conducted among 1,100 Californians from Aug. 2 to Aug. 4. It found that 51% of respondents were in favor of recalling Newsom, while only 40% wanted to keep him in power. The previous Survey USA/San Diego Union Tribune poll from May found 36% in favor of the recall with 47% opposed.

Unlike a recent UC Berkeley/Los Angeles Time poll that was weighted by whether the respondent was likely to vote in the Sept. 14 recall election, the Survey USA carried no such weight, which is even more alarming for the governor. The Berkeley/Los Angeles Time poll found double-digit opposition to the recall, but a dead heat when weighted by likelihood to vote. Polls have consistently shown a large enthusiasm gap, strongly suggesting Republicans are more likely to turn out.

The new poll's other shocking finding is a new leader on question two ("Which candidate should replace Newsom if he loses question one"): YouTuber Kevin Paffrath, the most high-profile Democrat on the bottom of the ballot.

Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer came in fourth with 5% support, while reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner and former Rep. Doug Ose tied for fifth, with 4% support.

Two polls from Emerson College/Nexstar Media — one released in July, the other in August — showed clear movement away from Newsom over the past two weeks. The August Emerson/Nexstar poll, like the Berkeley/Los Angeles Times poll, showed a dead heat.

Thanks for that. I am anxious for it to play out and see what happens. He certainly isn't a shoo-in to stay in office though is he?

I have no feel for this at all.

I asked no one about it.
So, I do not even know if democrats (living California registered voters or not) are motivated to go to the polls and support him.

    very late edit...

    I should say... lately..
I spoke about months ago... but back then no one thought it could happen.

Certainly based on the polling - Republicans seem more excited to vote him out than Democrats being excited to show up and keep him in office. With low voter turnout for this off-cycle election -- getting voters actually excited enough to show up and vote is important.
