  3. Vegetables, legumes, soy, fruit, skim and low-fat dairy. Some protein powder on the days that I focus on vegetables. Lots of flaxseed and a fair amount of oat bran. Between 16 and 24 egg whites per week. Some walnuts every day. I try to stay away from starches, which is hard to do since I love bread. However, I have cut my bread consumption considerably over the last couple of years or so to almost nothing. Almost, but not quite. Admittedly, a fair amount of my non-meat protein is still animal protein, which I understand contains higher levels of sulfur and is therefore a bit harder on the body.

  4. Very nutritious diet, excellent food choices! Focus on veggies-great! I like that you are staying away from WHOLE EGGS eating only the whites. Major source of fat and cholesterol. Your probably eating whites to boost your protein?

  5. Yes. And for the taste, because I sauté onions and peppers, add a bit of low fat swiss cheese, roasted garlic, hot salsa and balsamic vinegar while scrambling the egg whites. It is one of my favorite meals.

Try Thai Or Rosemary When Spicing The Meat To Curb Carcinogens

Warm weather brings on the seasonal meat favorites that are barbecued, grilled, broiled or fried. That also means more potential exposure to carcinogenic compounds known as heterocyclic amines (HCAs). There’s a way to reduce the risk significantly by just adding some spices – rosemary extracts or Thai spices.

Smith's research team investigated six spices -- cumin, coriander seeds, galangal, fingerroot, rosemary and tumeric -- and found that the latter three had the highest levels of antioxidant activity toward inhibiting the formation of HCAs, with rosemary as the most effective.

  8. I like this part of the article:

"Two thousand years ago, in this Bible passage, Paul asked for tolerance between meat eaters and vegetarians (Romans 14:1-2). “One man’s faith allows him to eat everything, but another man whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables."

  9. Yeah, that part was crap. I try not to be influenced by mystics and misfits. (Note how mystic sounds a lot like mistake.)
