Actually, some people thrive on high meat content and some people whither away on a vegetarian diet. As my nutritionist explained to me, we are a collection of thousands of years of "hand-me-down" genetics that determine how we metabolize our food. People have different combinations of genes and therefore we require different diets. And simply condemning fats is misleading. For example, many nuts (vegetarian) are full of fats and yet are also very healthy -- for some people. Not so much for others. It depends. Diet and nutrition are very complex and can't be accurately portrayed with sound bites or simplistic conclusions. To say that "no one thrives on high fat" is simply untrue. I eat a lot of fat. The fat I eat is properly balanced with Omega-3/6/9 fatty acids and monounsaturates, much the way people ate sixty-thousand years ago, all derived from fresh food. My cholestrol and triglycerides are perfect. If I got my fats from french fries and milkshakes, I'm sure my cholesterol would go through the roof. All fats are not created equal.
Plant murderers. And think of all the little critters killed in the process of harvesting those vegetables. Mice, turtles, etc and countless insects die from cultivation. What did they ever do to you?
No one thrives on a high meat diet. No one. The longest lived pops in the world eat a plant-based diet. More meat = more sat fat = higher risk CVD (cholesterol, LDl etc) Monkeys fed high mono fat developed the same amount of atherosclerosis as those fed saturated fat. Only POLY fats found in plants were protective. Their diet was highly controlled because they were confined and had to eat what was given them. Those eating high amounts of saturated or monounsat developed CVD. Cholesterol, LDl etc are only MARKERS of risk, higher means greater e risk of CVD not end stage disease. The longest lived pops eat a plant-based diet LOW in TOTAL FAT. See the "blue-zones" FYI.
Do these "longest lived pops" excersize a lot or are they confined in a cage like a monkey? Is their diet fat free? Or does it include some fat? What kind of fat? Do they have good genetics that helped them live longer? Monkey see, monkey do! Excersize is good for you!
Everyone in the "blue zones" is very active AND eats fewer calories. They are thin, healthy and live a long life eating a plant-based diet. We are sedentary in the extreme, so we have to exercise.
Ahem, that is racist. Aborigine brains? Get fucked, you vegetable eater. Plus, you ever looked up the aborigine life expectancy pre whitey, and whitey's flour and religion? Wasn't to great. Much better than pre whitey+ alcohol, but not fantastic. At least they were truly free. To hunt , (animals!!!) and do whatever the heck they felt was appropriate, within their environment. Something none of us can claim.
People in the "blue zones" are healthier because they eat very little processed foods, not because they eat less meat. If you look at the controlled meta-analyses of the data you'll see that this is case. It's the case in most "low fat" studies. If you look at the well-known Dean Ornish study, you'll see that the patients were put on a controlled diet that was low in fat, but also eliminated almost all processed foods (except grains). If you want to be healthy, stop eating processed foods. Stop eating sugar, flour and anything that comes in a can, box or bag with a long list of ingredients. Those are the real killers. (By the way, the hamburger at your local fast food restaurant is processed food -- full of starches and fillers. Eat only fresh meat, chicken and poultry). That's what I did and it changed my health forever. I still eat meat, but I eliminated deadly processed foods. I challenge anyone to try it for a month. You'll be amazed at how you feel. Eat only fresh meat, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. No processed foods. It will change your life forever. I learned this from a nutritionist with a PhD in bio-chemistry from Yale and 40 years of experience working hands-on with over 10,000 patients at two major teaching hospitals. Heart disease is not caused by eating meat. It's cause by a hormonal response (triggered by insulin) from eating processed foods that are full of chemicals, sugars and refined starches. Try eating a diet completely free of processed foods and you'll see your cholesterol drop, liver and kidney functions improve, and C-reactive protein (inflammatory response) fall like a dropped rock.
i don't eat like them (I EAT VEGETABLES, REMEMBER)but many do try eat "paleo" As for your first suggestion, i do as often as physiologically possible
But that's my point, they were forced , by conditions to go vegan, quite often. And there is not a true shitload of vegan food available, necessarily, in australia. Not talking "paleo", talking "what can keep me alive right now, and fit enough to hunt kangaroos etc with a wooden spear?" Sure, a super tasty protein bug is not beef, but then how does this gel with a modern veg diet. More questions than answers? I'll bet.
