  4. Vegetarians are happy no matter who joins them. I'm sure Mike Tyson will be on the cover of Vegetarian Times next month. :(

I don't think if I can carry on eating only vegetables. I mean, I also eat veggies but I am not a vegetarian. I eat meat once in a while but not in big servings.

  6. Woody Harrelson wants veggie choices in schools

Vegan actor Woody Harrelson is urging U.S. government officials to support a bill enforcing healthy eating in schools across America.

The "Cheers" star swears by his hardcore vegetarian diet and is known for providing his movie co-stars with alternatives to meat on set.

Now Harrelson and his wife Laura are appealing to Congress to bring similar practices into the lunchroom by backing the Healthy School Meals Act of 2010, which seeks to add vegetarian food and non-dairy beverages to cafeterias.

A letter from the couple to Congress reads, "As parents, we ask you to support HR 4870, the Healthy School Meals Act of 2010. We know from watching our own children grow up that eating habits children develop early on stick with them for life. All too often, young people are offered processed meats and cheese and other greasy, high-fat, high-cholesterol foods.

"The Healthy School Meals Act will help children develop better eating habits, provide healthful plant-based options that naturally contain no cholesterol, are low in saturated fat and high in fibre, enabling schools to reach high nutrition standards easily. The legislation gives schools the incentive and ability to address the health problems that are harming our children and overburdening our health systems."

Scarlett Johansson also pledged her support for the bill in a letter to a California congressman in March.

  7. "Sure, a healthy diet can include an occasional steak or chop. But people who eat mainly plant-based diets generally have lower blood cholesterol and blood pressure levels and a reduced risk of heart disease, obesity and type 2 diabetes. "

    Guess where this comes from...

Meat-free More Often: Alternate Protein Sources Promote Health

"Cutting back on meat doesn't mean worries about adequate protein. It's not difficult to reach a woman's daily recommendation for protein -- about 45 grams -- by eating a variety of vegetables, beans, legumes, grains and nuts."

    I SAY NUTS TO BEEF!

  8. Mayo Clinic also said people SHOULD add olive oil and Canola oils to their diets.

You can't 'pick and choose' the data from Mayo that you want to broadcast without accepting all of their recommendations. They either provide rock solid advice or they don't.

  9. What you missed is they are saying is REPLACE bad oils with LESS bad oil (olive) if you MUST eat oil at all. but they're ALL bad that's the import of it :D

But much better to throw out the oil altogether who need it? why eat it? oil is calorie dense and nutrient sparse

OIL? THATS FOR YOUR TRUCK! :D

  10. No, they did NOT say replace, they said ADD these oils to your diet.
