Not protecting these rights has already and will continue to create new problems. Namely and most importantly, the loss of individual freedom.
No, I'm not. You've said nothing in your posts to cause me to reach that conclusion. You're looking at it from a property rights perspective. I believe property rights are under assault, but I don't believe the type of law we are talking about would further that assault.
Yes brass unfortunately it needs to be this way. And no it isn't the type of country that I want to live in. I can however think of cases where discrimination, at least against an individual and probably against groups of people, that i would want to preserve. You probably would as well. EDIT: I would also add, that since most people aren't racist that this convenience store would lose business because of their policy. Also, this invites competition, which would undoubtedly fare better, assuming the lack of such a policy. As for your other corrected post, I get your point that it is what direction that teh govt is going, but that doesn't change the fact that socialism, and communism especially, are leftist economic policies. Also do you feel that, according to the link you posted, egalitarianism has an actual definition when it clearly lists contradictory ideas?
Well I'm glad that you understand that what I am posting does not in any way make me a racist. I do disagree with you however, individual laws aimed solely at eliminating people's rights, no matter how 'good' the intention, does erode our freedoms. This paves the way for much less well intended and much more oppressive legislation.
Quite simply the businesses who tried to engage in racism today would be buried by people based on the first amendment, and the right to free speech. If a business chose to be racist, they would lose so much business in todays world due to negative publicity, that they would cease to exist. From an article i posted earlier: Under a capitalist society, racism can still exist but does not enjoy many of the advantages it does under despotic systems of government such as Marxism. According to black economist Thomas Sewell wrote that under a free market economy, employers who are serious about running business are concerned about one color, green. Under the profit motive employers want employees that are skilled able and efficient. An employer who hires a lazy uneducated white man over a black man who is educated and experienced will regret it later on. That employee then moves on to one employer who will seize that opportunity and gain greater profit over the other. 9 times out of 10, the system works. When it doesn't, government steps in to prevent discrimination. As for hate speech, the propagation of media outlets and educational material made possible by the first amendment debases and refutes racism without costing liberty.
Thomas Sowell is one of my favorites. I recently purchased his revised "Intellectuals and Society". He makes a lot of sense on a lot of issues.
I agree 100%, and i have also read a lot of material from him, it is sad that a brilliant mind like Sowell's doesnt get the attention he deserves because he is fighting from inside of the ultra liberal academia, where dissenting opinions are heavily frowned upon.
Thomas Sowell predicted what was going to happen because of Welfare back in 1980, back then they were talking about the problem of 12% OF FAMILIES NOT BEING 2 PARENT FAMILIES ( By 2008, that number had tripled) Look where we have gotten today because of welfare, and liberal policies....
