You are not kidding. A speech of this power? Not to be made by either of the Clintons, either (any? haven't heard that guy from Florida yet, but I doubt it) of the Bushes, nor Obama. But imagine a conservative speech like this today. The MSM would go absolutely apeshit! We've strayed so far down the low road of liberalism for so long. Yet their promises do not come true. They tell us if only we sacrifice enough, if only we tax enough, if only we take enough from the people who work and give it to the people who do not work, then we'll all be a big happy family. Taxes go up, rich people are persecuted, but poor people are still with us in ever increasing numbers. Liberalism is a blantant failure, but few are willing to acknowledge this.
Modern day USA is a place where middle class is a rapidly shrinking entity. It is a place where the young people of merit and promise have to take loans in hundreds of thousands of dollars (grad school) to strive toward a comfortable living. Even if we are talking about regular state schools, we are talking about tuition rising faster than incomes and people borrowing ever more to get a Bachelor's degree (that does not get them much).According to republicans, all those people are parasites, free loaders and welfare queens. Health insurance is ever more expensive thanks to the delightful invention known as HMO. But don't look at Europe, they are a bunch of socialists. And besides, healthcare is a privilege... Reagan's speech is an example of propaganda and demagoguery. It appeals to people who have a surface level of understanding of economics and society. It seems reasonable to them because that is what propaganda designed to do.
But look who got elected........good old LBJ the sorriest president elected in the last 100 years. He helped set the country on fire and f'd up Vietnam. I hope Obama doesn't wind up like him.
We were in much better financial shape back then, than we are today. All this class warfare is boiling down to economics. The Fed is running out of ammo. Not good.
