  2. I haven't read the book and I don't know much about this guy. It's not exactly a secret that evangelicals feel like Bush stiffed them. He wouldn't be president without them, but he's done little to advance their concerns nor has the Republican congress. On the other hand, the Democrats would avidly try to advance policies they oppose, so there is nowhere else for them to go.

    The Republicans may have cost themselves the election by alienating an important core constituency. At some point the implicit Republican campaign motto of "we're not as bad as the Democrats" is not going to cut it.
