Since the age of consent in most muslim countries is 16-18, and requires marriage between the two people, I am not sure how you conclude that muslim countries support paedophilia. Many christian countries have and have had a lower age of consent than the average muslim country, not just now, but ever since Jesus died. A few centuries ago it was commonplace to marry off 12 and 13 year olds to ageing men, for example. Even now, 12 year olds in Spain can legally have sex with people older. And the catholic church has made it established practise to bugger children even younger than 10 years old, then keep it covered up even at the highest levels of church authority. In my opinion, the evidence indicates that it is cultural standards and levels of law enforcement, rather than religious doctrine, which dictate the legal and de facto age of consent in various different countries. The vast majority of the muslim world makes it illegal to have sex with under 16 year olds. Indeed, the punishment for paedophiles, adulterers and rapists there is far heavier than in the christian world. Reaching the conclusion that muslim countries legally condone sex with 10 year olds is impossible unless you are so racist and/or prejudiced that your hatred blinds you to the indisputable facts on the ground.

Not sure how this relates to the topic of the thread. Do you think that the comments by the cleric in question represent moral bankruptcy and borderline psychosis (10 years old). Or do you think that this is 'culturally appropriate', that it doesn't represent a universally acknowledgeable moral transgression, and that we cannot censure those who advocate or carry out such acts because we have to respect their 'culture'?
