imo the root cause of traders blowing up their accounts is that they are trading without an edge. Having unrealistic expectations doesn't help but imo it is not the root cause.
Pick any sports where a player scores a point such as Baseball, Basketball, Football, the other Football - Soccer, Hockey etc. When a player is offense they are always "trying" to score but realize it is not possible to do so each time. So instead they strive for a high percentage, relatively speaking, over the course of the game, over the course of the season and over their full career. That is what traders should emulate. Not nonsense flash in the pan double/triple/quadruple short term return headliners.
