Sorry Cowboy, that little dance is not going to work. Trump gave Trudeau a beating. And the premiers met collectively and began to talk openly about how Canada needed to have someone who could stand up to Trump. The Liberal Party was having the same dialogue and scheduled a caucus for the Liberal Party where it was fully expected that they would withdraw support for Trudeau to make way for Freelander or someone else. Trudeau then went into this little black-out period for reflection/consulting with others/etc. where he was advised that he was going to be removed at the caucus whether he attended or not. Trudeau then announced that he was going to step down just a couple days before the planned caucus meeting. Trump took him out. If accepting the fact that he was beaten by Trump is a selfless act, then whatever. It does not change the fact that interaction with Trump was the causative factor. I will give ya that Cynthia Freeland's resignation was also a big factor that weakened him but she stepped down arguing that Trudeau's flaccid interactions with Trump were weakening the country and were likely to be the case as long as Trump was there. So it still comes out with Trump being at the front of the chain of events.
"Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not open to lifting Canada’s full package of retaliatory tariffs if U.S. President Donald Trump leaves any tariffs on Canada in place, according to a senior Canadian government official."
Okay. Trudeau stepped down due to J6. This is how the Canadian mind works. No sparrow falls in Canada without the Americans being the reason. Situation normal. I guess that mindset is what it is like to be a colony of the U.S. MATTHEW 10-29 But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. .
Seriously? That's your takeaway from my response? Best you get back to your solvents before they evaporate.
If Canada would drop all its tariffs on our goods, we wouldn't have any either. It's called fair trade. We're sick of having to finance all your programs up there. Why should we be forced to make welfare payments to Canada?
There are talks now about the energy (electricity) that Canada sends to the United States...some provincial politicians are talking about doing rolling blackouts to show how dependent the United States is on Canada. I doubt Canada would do such a thing to its trading partner but I it's not out of the realm that someone sabotages the electricity grid to cause a blackout in the United States. In addition, Canada may decide to no longer participate in the Columbia River Treaty that prevents states in the Pacific Northwest from being flooded because Canada is the flood risk manager for the Pacific Northwest. Today, other states like Nevada, Arizona have increasing droughts...needing more water. Also, Trump has talked often about asking Canada to divert some of its water down to California for helping agriculture and to fight Wildfires. Trump has also talked in the recent past about wells are getting dryer in Wisconsin, Illinois...needing to change a 96 year water treaty with Canada so that more American states can buy water from Canada...he has said all of this without mentioning the words "climate change". A big chunk of the United States get their electricity from Canada only because we have been too lazy to build a better infrastructure so that we're less dependent on Canada for electricity and their other resources so that Americans can keep their energy costs down in the winter and summer. Oh wait, Trump/DOGE has stopped the funding for the Infrastructure that would have allowed the United States to be less dependent upon Canada to keep America warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Do not underestimate what a Tariff War does when one country is reliant upon resources for their citizens...it's bad for the economy and safety of the citizens. Canada is now pulling American made products off the shelves of their stores...complaints about lost income already from America's liquor and Wine industry. There's been a few devastating blackouts in the United States but the big one I remember was in 2003. New York in 2003 - Two power grids that Canada uses of 30 power grids to send electricity to the United States so that Americans can stay warm in the winter or cool in the summer. It hit hard the financial district, shutdown subways, shutdown traffic lights, and Americans died because it occurred on a hot day and people could not stay cool during the blackout. Hotels became so hot...people were sleeping outside on the street and nearby streets because the Hotels felt it was unsafe for them to stay in the Hotel. The Blackout cost the New York economy at least $10 billion. The blackout also had a devastating impact on the health and safety of New Yorkers, New England states, Minnesota and the Pacific NorthWest states. Of the 30 electrical grids from Canada to the United States...New York was only impacted by two down grids...resulting in $10 billion dollars in damages... A blackout that lasted only 29 hours, impacting 10 million Canadians and 45 million Americans. https://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/blackout/5/ https://www.gettyimages.ca/photos/2003-blackout It's now 2025 and we've had many chances to reduce those dependencies on Canada's resources by building our own power grids for those states listed above or improved their power electrical grids. Maybe that's why Trump is so interested in buying Canada or using military force if needed to take Canada. Yet, I doubt Trump's interest in Canada has any thing to do with Canada beating the United States 73% of the time in international Hockey games. New York City in the first few hours of the 2003 Blackout. Sarcastically, the below 2003 image looks more like a mass firing by DOGE in its quest to save money for Americans because they voted for stuff like this...a little disturbances. This could be a very hot summer (high energy costs) for America if blackouts occur and costlier water supply. wrbtrader
Canada won't have any tariff problems when it becomes American territory. Not sure it will qualify to be a state for a while but they can have that as a goal.
