the politically incorrect truth why TA can't work (for you)

  1. Did you ever consider that maybe trading isn't for you? Maybe you lack the emotional or cognitive abilities that successful trading requires? Not trying to put you down as trading is a very tough business, just wondering if you considered it.

  2. Whoa, posts like this are disturbing and need addressed.

Chronic stress?? Why on earth would someone take part in any activity that causes chronic stress? If you have money issues or are not managing your risk capital correctly, then here may be stress. You shouldn't be trading if you are stressed about it--- scared money never wins. Perhaps TA users are gamblers, betting everything on a pattern or set up--- no wonder they have stress. Never trade with money you can't afford to lose, that's why it's called risk capital.

  3. I don't have a lick of chronic stress. I just look for my setups and then trade them. Pretty straightforward.

  4. As it should be--- win/lose doesn't matter per trade--profits over time is the key.

Obviously you have never dealt with professional stress and it's characteristics. Many professions besides trading produce chronic stress, military pilots, air traffic controllers etc... All of these and many other professions induce chronic stress to a degree that places where people deal with it are almost always equipped with relaxation rooms, psychologists helping them on to relieve it on regular basis etc.

You may not realize it, but trading is always stressful to some degree, even if you just play trading on demo account. And professional trading is always chronic stress.

When saying this, I don't mean traders all have nervous tic or incontinence at night, but to say they don't incur chronic stress during their work means absolute absence of understanding of stress as a definition.

  6. Correct, if you have a method that has shown to be profitable over time, no need to get concerned on a trade by trade basis, so long as the trader is trading the method correctly and not shooting from the hip.

  7. Some stress and chronic stress are two different things.

    "chronic stress:
A state of prolonged tension from internal or external stressors, which may cause various physical manifestions–eg, asthma, back pain, arrhythmias, fatigue, headaches, HTN, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, and suppress the immune system."

Try to attach heart monitor (nowadays there are nice portable gadgets, which you may carry for a whole day without any discomfort) and see how your heartbeat changes depending on what you do, especially during the trading day. :)

Again, I do not mean chronic stress as something scary... but to deny it's presence in trading profession is probably not the best idea, much better learn to drop it off in a positive way.

All depends on the degree of the stress. Without any doubts successful and consistent traders have far less degree of a stress than consistent losers or pathological market gamblers.

But one can't deny presence of a stress associated with risk taking and decision making.
