I think the military was the real reason this was relatively bloodless at both the street level and in the government. There were reports early in the uprising that the generals told Mubarak he needed to step down but they gave him time and didn't force a take over. Then, as the demonstrations grew, I'm sure they refused to accept a Mubarak order to put down the revolt. Unable to quell the demonstrations even after Suleiman said on TV that the protests must end (implying a military put down) there was only left the outcome we have now. I'm not sure how or why the military has such a close relationship with the people. Maybe since they are U.S. equiped and have close ties to the U.S. military they were helped to understand that they exist to protect and serve the people instead of the dictator. Even if there is some truth in that, there has to be more that ties them to the people. Just some thoughts.
Congratulations is deserved when a good replacement comes to power. If Egypt becomes Iran II, that's not good for the Suez Canal and oil rises 10%, like one guy suggested. This world does not need another Iran. The Muslim Brotherhood is most organized and they will not be good if they rise to power. Uncertainty is what we have. How do you know? They haven't counted the dead. The criminals are in the streets, freed from prisons, and the museums have been looted.
If the Egyptians can protest/riot to get rid of Mubarak... Is there hope that we might do the same to depose Odumbo???
Probably not. Some want politicians who redistribute wealth. That's how Pelosi Reid Frank Waters Quinn (gov of IL) got reelected. And they have the media to provide the propaganda support, along with all the useful diots we have in this forum.
This is what cracks me up about the media here. They are celebrating this like it's the greatest thing to happen yet they have the exact opposite stance on any person speaking out against our own government. The media is in total disarray.
You compare a dictatorship to a deomocracy? As for your "speaking out against our own government," are you referring to the fraudulent misrepresentation in which you habitually engage against your own government? Idiot.
