The purpose of a strong middle class is to manage the classes beneath them by edicts laid down by the class above them. A weak middle class allows the lower classes with nothing to lose to enter into direct conflict with the ruling class. The middle class is easily controlled, firstly by the granting of favors and then by the issuance of credit.
