The Onion Network - Good for anonymous surfing

  1. I have been running TOR (The Onion Router) now for several days. On startup, I always choose a "new identity" so my traffic is routed differently and the ip appears different to the website operator.

I would have to rate TOR "good", but only because its free. If they charged for TOR then I would have to rate it fair to poor because of its slow speed.

The wikipedia says there are some weaknesses to the service, but it is adequate to keep yourself anonymous from website administrators. I am not hiding myself from the admins because I want to cause trouble, but mainly because I believe my IP address is private information just like my social security #. I would rather not have others knowing my private information which includes my personal ip address.

So far TOR has been reliable, but slow...

  2. Thanks. Can you share your experience with any installation issues?

Aren't you afraid of the proxies this goes through and the possibility of malicious administrators getting control of your PC?

I would feel more secure with a private anonymous service.
