Claire was picked up to swim in another event. We may still get a chance to see coverage of her next race on T.V. Claire's father, Mark Curzan, told WRAL she was selected to swim the butterfly leg in the 4x100 women’s medley relay preliminaries at the Tokyo Games sometime on Friday morning. Last weekend, Curzan swam in the 100-meter butterfly semifinal with a time of 57.42 seconds, giving her a tenth-place finish. Curzan, who calls Cary home and is a rising senior at Cardinal Gibbons High School, finished in 57.49 seconds in the qualifying meet. Curzan did not advance to the final. In three seasons at Cardinal Gibbons, Curzan has won six state championships and has been named the MVP of the championship meet twice. She was named Girls Swimmer of the Year at the HighSchoolOT Honors on Thursday night.
Claire Curzan gets Silver Medal in 4x100M relay. I don't understand how all the rules work -- she participated in the semi-final heat but was not swimming in the final where the U.S. got Silver. She still gets to come home with a Silver medal. Which is great news. I heard that everyone who swam in the Heats and Final gets a medal but only 4 get to go on the podium for the ceremony. The swapping is allowed because some team members have other races that overlap a Heat or is too close together their next individual race so you have a backup to swap.someone out. Glad she gets a taste of a medal because she could be the next star for U.S. in 2024 when she is like 20 even though Ledecky said she is not done.
