First of all data mining is not only legal; it's prevalent in MANY aspects of life.

Do you not think AMEX communicates with companies that your card does business with? Do you not think that Google keeps track of your surfing habits? Don't you find it strange that the discount coupon you receive with your grocery store receipt is for a product that's been scanned on a previous visit when you've used your Safeway card?

Police have used MUD's (phone records) for a couple of decades. No warrant required. There's a difference between mining and eavesdropping. And there's a difference between eavesdropping and collecting admissible evidence. Drug stings, policewomen acting as decoy hookers and field sobriety tests are all primitive erosions of liberty. Nothing new under the sun, only evolving technologies.

Of people KNOWN or HIGHLY suspected of having terrorist connections.

    OF COURSE NOT.

Have you read some of the commentary coming from the Middle East. There some that would "Wipe us of the map", if possible. If anything, if the left had any consistency, they demand they be searched, considering Bush has created a huge incubator of terrorist activity.

These requirements, of course, must be deligently enforced and overseen and done by the book. And if the current laws inhibit quick action against our enemies, they should be changed.

How do they define "Of people KNOWN or HIGHLY suspected of having terrorist connections"? It's to broad and subjective in my opinion. If I were President would you feel comfortable giving me this authority? I hope not!:D

  4. To paraphrase Larry Ellison: “You have no privacy.....get over it.”

Ellison BTW has made billions on CIA, NSA and NRO contracts.

  5. You missed it - just like everyone else. Right under your nose too.
The green boxes on every corner you can't open and nobody ever goes into. New sorting facilities bigger than boeing plants. The big hard leather bags. At your house everyday anyway.

    USPS.

"Today's gonna be a little different Sir - come out and get in the truck."

  6. some points

the IRS collects, stores, and requires by law FAR more information from private citizens as to - charitable contributions, address, dependents, disabilities, investments (you have to give them a record of every single transaction u make), gambling winnings, marital status, etc. etc. etc.

apparently, it's ok to gather a hyoooge database on private citizens every transaction etc. if it's for the purposes of collecting MONEY FROM THEM but it's not ok to to collect information on calling patterns during a time of war?

    whatever

little brother (ie private businesses) followed by the IRS has far more personal information on any given private citizen than the NSA ever will have, or cares to have .

also, intelligence gathering methods are generally far more successful if they are unknown to the general public. that may suck, but every time we divulge methods of our intelligence gathering (such as the divulgences of the terrorist surveillance program), we make that method less effective. duh

i'm not saying i am for or against this current issue. but the idea that the fed govt. or the NSA even cares about YOUR phone calls is ridiculous.

unless they can find some connection to cell activity or whatnot

Excellent points. Liberals favor higher taxes along with a confiscatory Agency to collect those taxes. Somehow it doesn't bother LoZZer and doodoo that if Americans fail to pay almost half their wages to Big Brother then their property is stolen and they wind up in prison. Few countries lock up people for tax evasion.

  8. Western ignorance of Islamic culture is a big part of the problem:

Stop pretending Islam is a religion of peace and Islamic terrorists have as much support from mainstream Muslims as Tim McVeigh had from Christians. It just isn't true.

    http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/06/08/poll.binladen/

Learn how the enemy thinks, and use his deviant psychology against him. Every dead terrorist gets a free pig from now on.

Learn from Europe's mistakes and recognize the threat of Islamic immigration, as opposed to all the other illegal immigration. No non-Muslim has ever travelled to the U.S. for the purpose of killing random Americans.

Allow a Finsbury Park Mosque free-for-all, and you're just asking for terrorism. Don't let terrorist recruiting stations to go unchallenged- especially not on your own home turf!

Beating terrorists requires us to be smarter than they are...and I see alot of work to be done to reach that level.
    _______

    Muslim Arab mindset 101:

Two key words: HONOR & PRIDE above everything else. This is how the religious zealots (Hamas, Jihad) and the secular nationalists (Fatah, PFLP) are identical. Money, possessions, comfort, blood...even human life are all secondary, relatively unimportant values compared to the Muslim Arab man's all important sense of personal and family pride. This is why when an Arab Muslim's sister/daughter has premarital sex, the 'honorable' thing to do is to publicly kill her, in order to restore the family honor. Not all suicide bombers are devout Muslims. Take away the religious brainwashing nonsense, and there is still a massive sense of pride, accomplishment, and family honor when he blows himself up killing a few hated Zionists.
Becoming a Shahid (martyr) is the highest honor in his society- much more dignified than becoming a successful businessman, athlete or entertainer.

Point the sole of your shoe in his direction, and he'll be whipped into such an insulted frenzy, the Western observer would think you've just shot his dog or something. Compromise is never an option to him, only absolute unquestionable victory. Anything else would be an unbearable insult to his pride.

  9. Liberals don't favor higher taxes pabst, as expected you don't have any idea what you're talking about. Liberals favor lean and mean government providing high quality social, military, environmental, economic and other extremely important services which the private sector for whatever reason has failed to, is unable or unwilling to provide.

Liberals also believe that if we're at war (right or wrong) the least we should do is pay for it. Your and your party's assurance that Iraqi oil will pay for the invasion and rebuilding of Iraq turned out to be a total nonsense so it's either we pay for it or our children. Of course you don't have children (nor you should IMO) so for you the choice is obvious.

And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey, hey, hey
    Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today

We were never meant to worry the way that people do
And I don't need to hurry as long as I'm with you
We'll take it nice and easy
    And use my simple plan
You'll be my lovin' woman—I'll be your lovin' man
We'll take the most from living,
have pleasure while we can, 2-3-4

    Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
    Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey, hey, hey
