Friggin' Patriots. Looking like Csonka and da Boyz won't be popping champagne corks this year... Oh well, the Pats are good. Gotta give 'em props, even if I don't like 'em. And there are a few games left. Maybe somebody can stop them? Hey, now that I think about it, the symmetry and irony is intriguing: Dolphins go 0 - 16, while the Pats go 19 - 0 (or whatever, how many games are there now if you go to the SB?) Trying to look on the bright side. And it's tough, because I have always been a Dolphins fan!
I still am not sure how that ball could have bounced back. Got to be the first time that has ever happened. I give the officials credit for getting it right. Apparently it is a non-reviewable play, so they were in a tough spot. Probably a good idea to stay out of bars in Baltimore tonight.
A quick recap of this week's action. I took the Eagles giving 10, the Giants giving 3 and St. Loius giving 3. The Eagles won by 10 for a push after McNabb went out with an injury early. The Giants and St. Loius both covered, leaving me 2-0-1. The Redskins-Cowboys clash turned out to be a great game, with the Cowboys winning by 5 and thus not covering. As usual with the Skins, it went down to the last play. Jason Campbell played pretty well, and if his recent improved play continues, I may have to drop my earlier criticism of him. He had one costly INT today and turned it over when sacked, but all in all played pretty well. The Skins missed Sean Taylor big time as TO burned them for 4 TDs. Skins defensive coordinator Greg Williams' status as head coach in waiting is getting shakier every week. As I said last week, if you're playing the 'Boys, you have to double TO and take your chances elsewhere. I was very unimpressed with the Redskins defensive scheme. They pretty much stoned the Cowboys run game, but the Cowboys gave them a lesson in dissecting the cover 2 defense. It didn't help that the Redskins got very little pressure on Romo. GB easily defeated Carolina, a game I liked but talked myself out of. To repeat, a team without a QB is usually not going to make the spread. The big upset of the week was produced by the Jets, who pulled out everything but the single wing to defeat the Steelers by 3 in OT. So far, the Steelers on the road have been a very ordinary team. Seattle managed to get past Chicago in what appeared to be an interesting game. Apparently Jacksonville is for real, as they handled up and down SD. Indy turned in their second straight subpar performance, as K Adam Vinatiera is on a horrendous slump. Minnesota didn't need Adrian Peterson after all and rolled over Oakland. TB crushed Atlanta. Houston had a surprising easy time with NO, winning 23-10. Arizona beat Cincy 35-27. The misery continues for Marvin Lewis, who must be wondering if he can hang on to his job.
The important thing is they got it right. That's what counts. Perhaps they will change this offseason about that being an unreviewable play. Today was a great example why it should be. And tonight's game had another odd field goal with the field goal camera being hit on a kick.
I took both the Giants and St Louis to cover, so I made a little cachingo this weekend. The Colts problems go beyond Vinitaeri's kicking. What the heck is up with Manning?!? He's had two horrible games in a row. Today he didn't even have a touchdown and didn't even crack 200 yards passing. I know Harrison is hurt and all, but good grief... I was amazed that neither Manning or Derek Anderson threw for touchdowns, and that Westbrook didn't score either. AAA, who do you think will put up the best numbers for the rest of the season: Bulger, J Campbell, or Schaub?
I'm not really into the fantasy thing so I'm not a good person to ask regarding QB numbers. Bulger is a very good QB who certainly has the capacity to put up huge numbers, particluarly if Torry Holt is healthy. Campbell likewise can throw the ball, if the coaches let him, which is a huge if. Yesterday was teh first game they have really let him air it out. Perhaps the results were good enought to encourage them to throw more. Schaub I really know nothing about.
Well guys I guess my Saints are done: we lost to the Rams last week and the Texans today so put a fork in them. Why do the Browns have all these great game-endings? Never seen a FG hit the upright bounce down, hit the extension and bounce back into the field of play. Even the official did not know the rule b/c he said FG no go. Since the FG hit the extension and not the crossbar the FG was correctly ruled good. Looks like the Pats are back to their old ways beating the hell out of who ever they play. N.E. minus the points again this week??????
WOW Philly vs N.E. on Sunday Night Football. The line on the game at this time is N.E. -22. WOW In order to cash with the Pats they must win by more than 3 TD. Good game Thursday with the G.B. vs Detroit the other 2 are stinkers.
