  4. Deer Hunter - 9/10 (a bit too long otherwise 10/10)

Matrix - 8/10 (agree with too contrived)

Schindler's List - 6/10 (8/10 if one has Jewish roots)

King of NY - 8-9/10 (love Christoffer Walken)

    ***Tip***:

if you love Christopher Walken and love Sci-Fi movies DO NOT EVER watch "Communion" (1989)

  6. Haven't posted a review for a while-haven't seen to many movies, however, just saw "The Road", Viggo Mortenson etc-actually I saw it two days ago, and am still coming to terms with it, this review is more therapy than anything.

If you have seen it, you might know what I mean-this is a movie that would turn a green beret into a jello mould.

I've never seen anything like it, anything to really compare it to-it's the only movie I have ever seen, that while brilliant, a masterpiece, and would recommend to anyone-I couldn't in good conscience suggest they actually WATCH the movie, it's so utterly, utterly devastating.

Mortenson is brilliant, the few other cast brilliant, the cinematography brilliant-in it's own way.

While the respective themes of starvation, cannibalism, desperation are obvious, it isn't that that makes it so deeply disturbing-yet I cant figure out what it is that does.

There are thousands of films more gruesome, not that "The Road" is ultimately; perhaps the sheer reality and simplicity of the situation is one that makes it far, far, far too real and visceral for me, at least.

Perhaps, it's because it throws out all ideas of "survivalism", food storage, shelters,(ie, years of supplies etc) hunting , fishing, outdoor survival, everything, turfs them straight in the bin, and stomps them with a jackboot.

Perhaps, it's the sheer inability to help anyone, that doesn't just tug at heartstrings, but rip's one's gut's out , tears the viewers heart out, and leaves it on the floor-all while making mincemeat of the viewers mind, that there probably , really, actually, is not a "best case" scenario" to be found.

A deeply moving, deeply disturbing film, all I can suggest is appreciate it is an amazing film, a remarkable, beautiful (in it's own right) movie, but if you value your peace of mind , have PTSD/other issues, don't watch it.
    Ever.

As remarkable as it was, I don't want to see it again.

    4 and a half stars.

  7. I have never seen a more depressing, sad, sick, disgusting movie. I would say, RUN.....but

I went to BB with my brother in law. (I have a serious weakness for Charlize and Rachel Mc.) After seeing that Charlize Theron was in this movie I felt inclined to see it. At the check out the guy behind the counter said the movie was quite depressing...
I looked at my brother in law and we both nodded in accordance, how bad can it be? We can handle a little depression....

That's until we found ourselves seeing a movie we didn't want to see anymore but thought, hey how bad can it get?. Well. It is hard to describe.

So next weekend we are back at BB and in line is a woman and she has the Road in her hands. We obviously right away tell her to forget it, that the damn film is just too depressing.
Her facial reply was similar to ours a week earlier. 'how bad can it be?' 'I can take it....'

Well, I have to say, for some people, when told not to do something, they more willingly do it. I guess I was able to take that thorn of of my back.

I still wonder if she has been able to do the same...:D
Now, how many of you reading this will run to see it next...

  8. The message behind the Matrix is a compilation of the way humans deal with their reality. It is not a simple message. Everything in that movie had a meaning to digested. A person that is accustomed to a clear cut protagonist/antagonist outline might have some trouble with this movie at first. But a clear understanding to this one trilogy would save one several college classes in philosophy and comparative religion.

  9. Agreed. Great movie on many levels. Not sure if it had to be so violent though. I also think Ellen Page has a great future ahead of her.
