The most successful automated system in the world

  1. I suppose this is the place to post this....

Can anyone advise as to where I begin searching for a black box developer. I know this question appears rather sheepish, but it's genuine. I'm having an exceedingly difficult time finding someone to program some very simple strategies. This could be due to the fact that, not being technologically savvy, I'm not communicating my needs properly.

Can any just point me to a source that does this for a living? Thanks!

  2. Therein lies the crux of the matter.

To create a great automated system, well, you have to be a great trader AND a great programmer.

Now, once you have a winning trading methodology (which you've taken years of your life to develop), how confident are you that you're system is going to be kept proprietary if you have someone else write it? (and assuming that you do not become, now, a great programmer)... call me paranoid, but I'm not very.

But if you are, here goes:

  3. The simple answer to your "question" is yes

During the time I managed my own fund, I ran 6 uncorrelated systems. IF I would have divulged any information as to performance to the public (this was a private fund) I would have been fired. Period.

Outside of required reporting, no successful fund manager is going to talk to you (or anyone for that matter) about methodology or performance.

Why? How does reporting performance without any information about markets traded or methodology compromise a system in any way?

    Thanks,

  6. hahahah,

in short MPO, the moment you divulge your system's details its performance becomes "diluted", I'm not saying that the "edge" is gone mind you, I'm just saying that it becomes "dulled" (not to mention that if it becomes public domain without a copyright, someone else will take your system, turnaround, trademark it, and sell it as if it were their own, making a lot of money off of your hardwork - don't believe me, look at the Traders International scandal that's unfolding ... boy, is there a lesson there!).

    best,

    JJ

P.S. In fact, that's probably one of the best arguements for keeping your system to yourself! - besides just plain common sense.

  7. If the fund manager told me some really juicy numbers I'd have a real motivation to try to figure out what they're doing.

Assuming he has all the capital he wants already, what good could come from disclosure? He'd just have a bunch of guys trying to spy, steal or reverse-engineer his methods overnight.

  8. I wouldn't worry about anyone stealing your system. Chances are that if it works it's either counterintuitive or necessitates an open loss prior to putting you in the green. If neither of those conditions are qualified, then it's either do to randomness or your skill and can't be replicated.

I've been pimping the Fisher ACD method like it was my job whenever given the chance and I seriously doubt anyone has tested it - and i know it works.

Do I care either way? Not really, but the bottom line is that ppl tend to never want to do the hard work to test anything - they all want a guru to give it to them whole to swallow and even then they are rarely have the balls to execute it, probably because it wasn't achieved through failure and hard knocks.

  10. Even if he told us some juicy numbers, how could we, as ordinary persons, figure out his methods? Unless we have access to his trading records, it's hard to do.

By the way, I think the best way to get his methods is to kidnap him. :p (joking)
