Well he is the guy who wanted to give those innocent young man in Central Park the death sentence. Then he refused to admit he was wrong. Seems to be his pattern.

The local TV stations in our area have already experienced that the radar and other feeds from the National Weather Service are down a large portion of the time since DOGE implemented large-scale cuts. The local stations are relying on their own doppler radar equipment to provide severe storm information.

I thought that Trump said he was going to drive pharmaceutical drug prices down. Instead he is deliberately driving them up. The majority of pharmaceutical drugs taken by U.S. citizens come from outside the U.S. -- and just to be clear, a huge majority of these drug manufacturers (especially the generic ones) are not coming to the U.S.

Despite his campaign promises, Trump caves to the Pharma industry and drives up drug prices so they can earn record profits.

'Rig the system': Alarm sounded as Trump backtracks on major promise
    https://www.alternet.org/caved-again/

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order that aims to delay Medicare negotiations for a broad category of prescription drugs, handing the deep-pocketed pharmaceutical industry a major win as it lobbies aggressively against efforts to rein in its pricing power.

Trump's order, titled "Lowering Drug Prices by Once Again Putting Americans First," instructs Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to work with Congress to "modify" the Medicare drug price negotiation program that was established under the Biden administration and has already yielded significant results despite pharma companies' best efforts to block it in court.

Specifically, Trump calls for a four-year extension of the period during which small-molecule prescription drugs are exempt from price negotiations with Medicare. Under the Inflation Reduction Act, small-molecule drugs—which are typically taken in pill form and represent 90% of medications currently in circulation—are not subject to the price negotiation process until at least nine years after their Food and Drug Administration approval date.

Steve Knievel, a drug policy advocate at Public Citizen, warned in a statement that by pushing back the negotiation date for many drugs, Trump's order could do the opposite of its stated goal, potentially reversing recent progress on an issue that has long plagued the United States.

"Further delaying Medicare drug price negotiation would lead to higher prices for patients and taxpayers, not lower ones," said Knievel. "Empowering Medicare to negotiate drug prices is the only significant legislative measure taken to address Big Pharma price gouging in the last 40 years. Now Trump proposes to undermine that singular achievement."

Your local weather station is dependent on data from NOAA in order to provide weather information such as pollen levels, soil temperature, and other information used in your local forecast. The information is provided from regional climate centers. All of these regional centers are now offline.

For North Carolina this is the Southeast Regional Climate Center (SERCC).

Funding lapsed: Key weather data source is offline and its future is in doubt
Data from the SERCC provides a way for WRAL meteorologists to provide context to the weather on any given day.

The Southeast Regional Climate Center (SERCC) provides timely, high quality climate data to the public. But as April 17, 2025, that data is not available to WRAL meteorologists to consider in their forecasts.

The site merely shows this message:

"Federal funding for the Regional Climate Center program lapsed on April 17, 2025. It is unknown when or if funding will resume, pending decisions by NOAA and the Department of Commerce. If there are particular products and services that you rely upon, please contact us at sercc@sercc.com or reach out to your federal representatives and communicate their value and why you need them."

The SERCC is just one of six regional climate centers across the country.

The SERCC serves six states (including North Carolina), Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

"SERCC is invaluable," said WRAL meteorologist Chris Michaels.

Founded in 1989, the office is located in Chapel Hill. Our WRAL Severe Weather Team has developed a great working relationship with them and rely on their data on a daily basis.

"They provide perspective on the weather of the day," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

WRAL meteorologist Brian Shrader added," Their data puts our weather in context."

    WRAL uses SERCC data to:
    • track pollen trends so that we can report on the seasonal impacts for allergy sufferers.
    • check soil temperature information which is crucial for local agriculture and farming. During winter months, we use the soil data to see how fast snow or ice will melt or if anything could stick to the roads.
    • answer questions about whether something is a record or out of line with average weather data. If you have you ever heard us talk about things like “this is the warmest spring on record” or “so far, this is the wettest year on record” or “the last time we had 10 days in a row with days at 100 degrees" – that data came from SERCC.
Data from the SERCC provides a way for WRAL meteorologists to provide context to the weather on any given day.

"Viewers will miss out on critical information," said WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze.
