The Mental Edge In Trading

  1. If you actually take the trader personality tests that deal with the traits that Jason is speaking of and then go back and read his book and listen to this video, you will find it more beneficial. I read his book when it first came out and didn't think much of it -- but then I took a Market Awareness Profile test and could use my results in context and had a much better understanding of what Jason was saying. From my standpoint, the problem with a lot of trading psychology books is that they are more of a "one-size-fits-all" kinda thing yet everyone is wired so differently. Also, keep in mind that Jason did all of this at the suggestion of his dad -- Jason wasn't exploiting his dad's success. As I understand it, Jason is mainly focused on his normal psychiatry work and just saw this as an opportunity to work with his dad, etc.

It is psychology. But no one can change it for you: you have to change it yourself. Some people are just not suited for trading. If you have spent your life lying to yourself or blaming things on other people, or are fearful of losing a single dime, it's hard to see how you could ever tweak yourself to trade well. However, if you are free of these negative traits but inexperienced, I believe that you can change yourself with some introspection, effort, and persistence.

Like everything else in life, many of the answers may be found in the mirror.

  3. So that people do not get discouraged : even the "psychology" can be worked on.
If you are really serious about it, start booking yourself on Bouddhist-based meditations retreats.
That's, I'll say, is the first first first step for whoever is looking to sort their psychology. The Bouddhists
have studyed the human mind non stop for over 5,000 years and kept a continuous records of their
findings. If one looks, sooner or later, one will come to a Bouddhist branch that knows how to help
with whatever psychological flaws one wants to get rid of.
