  3. I watched the first 3 speeches and was disgusted. Some paraphrased gems:

"We were profitable till the credit crisis destroyed us"

"Dealers cant get low rate financing for bulk purchases of cars"

"A 25b bridge loan will help us navigate these tough times"

"We are competitors but all inter-dependent. If 1 fails, we all suffer and would likely fail"

"We have 2 hybrid models coming to market soon, they will save us!"

  4. Ford spun off 24 billion in cash to shareholders in 1998

as far as I'm concerned, any bailout is merely replenishing the cash that they gave to shareholders in 1998 - they should have kept it instead

what's to stop another firm from doing this?

    it's robbery

  5. I smell a generational war coming as the young are tired of paying into the broken system that is doomed to fail.

  6. Don't forget that the Gen X'ers are fundamentally nihilistic infiltrators.

Let's see what happens when Obama gets the keys to the car.

  7. I agree. Its the first generation that will intentional leave the world worst off after they are dead.

Thats why I want the crash to happen now. Let these assholes pay for it. The were the ones that elected fools like Carter, Clinton, Peloski, Waxman, Obama. They are the ones that need to pay for letting the country go socialist.

  9. I labeled myself as the tail end of the baby boomers, but by some definitions, I am early generation X or 'cusper' (between the 2)

The author of "Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture" is my age. I didnt quite get the book, but his definitions in the margins were amazing, giving names to things that bugged everyone my age and younger, that nobody had yet defined. (definitions below, worth glancing at) It touches on things, that anyone born 1961 or later, was getting the sense that things were not what they seemed

but back to your point, you're absolutely right boomers were the first generation to blatently state 'I'm livin it up, and f--k anyone who comes after us

here's a few of the terms from this 1991 book:

air family - describes the false sense of community experienced among coworkers in an office environment. (page 111)

bleeding ponytail - an eldery sold-out baby boomer who pines for hippie or pre-sellout days. (page 21)

consensus terrorism - the process that decides in-office attitudes and behavior. (page 21)

emotional ketchup burst - the bottling up of opinions and emotions inside oneself so that they explosively burst forth all at once, shocking and confusing employers and friends — most of whom thought things were fine. (page 21)

historical overdosing - to live in a period of time when too much seems to happen. Major symptoms include addiction to newspapers, magazines, and TV news broadcasts. (page 7)

legislated nostalgia - to force a body of people to have memories they do not actually possess: "How can I be a part of the 1960s generation when I don't even remember any of it?" (page 41)

    (most famous of these terms)
McJob - a low-pay, low-prestige, low-dignity, low-benefit, no-future job in the service sector. Frequently considered a satisfying career choice by people who have never held one. (page 5)

(here's a relevant one for today)
ultra short term nostalgia - homesickness for the extremely recent past: "God, things seemed so much better in the world last week." (page 96)
