The loneliness of success

Discussion in 'Psychology' started by Smart Money, Apr 20, 2011.

  1. Let me give you an example of an extremely successful guy.
His daughter once invited him to a cafe for a chat. As she had just had her first job, and left home, started to become independent..., she paid her dad's coffee. She explained that her dad told her "this is the first time anybody had ever paid even a coffee for me". Her dad being an extremely successful person who helped tons of people, and to whom many would come when needing a favor.
So the issue of "loneliness of success" is actually a very valid one.

  2. nodoji is one of the few that has been very generous with actually answering questions without any obfuscation. i have to commend her for that, you simply cant find that anywhere.

mostly you get answers that have nothing to do with your question but nodoji gets very specific and actually helps.

    bravo.

  3. Surely, you must know that
    Or
    a) the vendor is making serious dough trading
    b) the vendor is not really making serious dough trading, or is inconsistent in trading.

case b) could explain the secrecy. Though I remember one company used one of their trader blowing a huge account to advertise what not to do, and how open and honest they were , as they had many trading rooms and trading educators.

case a) the vendor would be flamed for it. And here all the negative effects of "fear of success" would appear.

The solution to loneliness is to love people- i.e. focus on other people rather than yourself. Remove your focus from the self-centered "me me me", "I I I", "it's all about me" mentality and start thinking more about other people.

Switching mentalities doesn't happen overnight. But you can start small- start with the small things. Buy a meal for somebody who's hungry. Host a surprise birthday party for somebody. etc.

If you've been self-centered all your life (and I'm not saying you are), then this may sound dreadful. But step outside your comfort-zone and try it.

Your life might just might get a whole lot more fulfilling. And the loneliness disappears quickly.

  6. It is true that those numbers wont help you become profitable

But they will help you form realistic goals

how many traders stay mired in the muck because their goals are set way too high

who knows how many struggling traders are out there pounding the desk in frustration and anger that their goals aren't being reached.....

when in reality their goals are impossible to achieve

when expectation is not in line with reality, you approach the game all wrong and success will be even harder to find

Yes it is a crock o crap. :) As I pointed out some pages ago, this was a troll thread... the thread starter had admitted to being unsuccessful in other posts. :)

  7. What if the struggle is what creates the trader?

The price of admission is to be resilient, tenacious, conscious, innovative... etc and then the real work starts.

How many people are actually doing the homework required to get your foot in the door?

  8. Trading looks like an extremely low barrier to entry endeavour.

Regarding the dad's example. Not a good example, as I found out that his helping others were always under constraints, never coming from a free choice where he could say not helping, as he had a public image to preserve for professional reasons.lol.

  9. Geez, be happy you are making a living and talk to other traders
get a hobby, get busy, travel and read

busting with pride is great --i am sure you are not the only one making money

  10. not sure he was "busting with pride".
Certainly he was extremely joyful to do well; and having nobody around to share it, he came to share it with the online traders. How about this viewpoint?:)
