The Imaginary Sarah Palin 'Huge' Crowds

For the second time in just over a week, Fox News is coming under fire for misusing old news footage. The latest flap is leading some people to charge that the cable news network is intentionally misleading its audience, while Fox claims a "production error."

Wednesday's incident occurred when Fox News host Gregg Jarrett mentioned that a Sarah Palin appearance and book signing in Grand Rapids, Michigan had a massive turnout. As footage rolled of a smiling and waving Palin amidst a throng of fans, Jarrett noted that the former Republican vice-presidential candidate is "continuing to draw huge crowds while she's promoting her brand-new book,'' adding that the images being shown were "some of the pictures just coming in to us.... The lines earlier had formed this morning."

However, the video used in the segment was from a 2008 McCain/Palin campaign rally. In response to the minor uproar that arose after clips of Jarrett's report hit the Internet, Fox senior vice-president of news Michael Clemente issued an initial statement saying, "This was a production error in which the copy editor changed a script and didn't alert the control room to update the video."

On Thursday afternoon, Fox News issued an on-air apology delivered by host Jane Skinner:

Yesterday we told you about Sarah Palin kicking off her book tour and then we spoke to Sean Hannity
  2. Shocking, just shocking. Crowd attendance is being exagerated, OMG. Like that never happens with lefty protest shots on the screen. Can you say tight shots to enlarge the appearance of the crowd? Please! If we really want to discuss media manipulation lets have a serious discussion, like say, Dan Rather. When he could not find actual evidence to support his beliefs, he fabricated the evidence. This was done in an attempt to swing the election of a president. Slightly more significant that pumping up book sales for Palin. Or, we can take a trip back to Comrade Cronkite and his, the war may be lost statement, a complete misrepresentation of the Tet Offensive in which the NVA and VC were beaten badly. His comment swung popular opinion as well as political. The result was tens of thousands of U.S troops dieing needlessly, hundrends of thousands of Vietnamese dieing, millions of southeast Asians dieing after the U.S. left the area. All this lays squarely in the lap of Comrade Cornkite and his ilk.
Let's fast forward to current events. We have a media that continues to turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to Obama and his crew. What we get is a administration permeated with Commies, Marxists, Maoists, and other assorted radical lefties hell bent on overloading the system to the point of collapse. All this is OK, but we're really, REALLY concerned with the size of the crowds at a Palin rally. Unbelievable!
  3. Well, yeah. But is sure is a good thing that a crackpot like Ron Paul (supporter of the Constitution, you know)... didn't get into the White House... We'd REALLY be F'd then..
  4. Ricter

Ron Paul there would be even more powerless than he is now. Not only would the political elite continue to oppose him, the economic elite would begin to act against him.
  5. Is this the fake?

  6. AH HA! Just so happens she's in "Fort" Wayne. The implications are clear she is now forming a rogue military force which will overthrow the current government. My gawd, it's happening right in front of our very eyes. The book is probably a battle plan. Somebody call Keith Olberman, please, dear lord, it's a crisis. Next thing you know Cheney will show up with a shotgun.
