We mustn't overlook the fact that he merely has "half the board on ignore." There is still plenty of work to be done. As far as the "accomplishment" aspect is concerned, the man obviously is filled with his own pervasive sense of grandiosity and pompousness.

At the risk of being presumptuous I'm going to assume "him" is me. And that your response is to someone on my ignore list, since I can't see their post.

(Why would someone make a post directed at someone they know can't see it?)

I'm using the ignore feature primarily as garbage or shit filter. IOW an alias on the list doesn't necesarily have to say anything directly to me. They merely have to demonstrate that reading their posts is a waste of MY time.

  4. remember the episode on Gilligans Island, when Gilligan was made like a deputy and he ended up putting everyone in the jail? :p

  5. At half the board, he only has another 25% to go before he approaches the right ratio.

I'd say he's just trying to do a public service. I can review his list and I always find a few names for which I go 'Oh yeah, I was going to put that idiot on ignore, just didn't get around to it.'

I had to log on as a guest a few times recently and it was ridiculous having to wade through all the garbage that I don't usually see. My list isn't quite as long as this but it's close.

There may certainly be some names there that deserve to be ignored. However, a hefty chunk of his list comprises those that lean politically to the left or have expressed a point of view favoring the left. Furthermore, my own belief is that the people on his 'ignore' list are not actually ignored. I've seen him respond, sometimes directly but on most occasions indirectly, either further down in the same thread or in a different thread.
He is a hard core right-winger (based on his post content) and his 'ignore' list is heavily biased, based on his political mindset. It might be an appropriate list for likeminded politically right leaning posters and in that regard he may be performing a public service, assuming of course that they also don't want to debate people whose political opinions differ from their own.

  7. You may have a point, but then my own list is probably similarly biased. However, I did notice that his list and mine intersect quite a bit and this means that he is putting on ignore the idiot trolls despised by both sides.
I wasn't aware of this, but if it's true it would surprise me.

My main reason for posting in this thread is just to counter those who claim that the ignore list is some sort of cop-out. Like I said, when I logged in here as a guest, it was like night and day. I couldn't visit the place without it.

As mentioned before, his list concentrates on persons who lean to the left. There is only one name there that I see, who may possibly be right-wing. Any new member who supports the left automatically gets on his 'ignore' list.
I don't believe in such lists. At the very least, each person has his own preferences and biases and his list will reflect these accordingly. If his list and yours "intersect quite a bit," then good for you.

    Quote from ak15:
    1) ...a hefty chunk of his list comprises those that lean politically to the left or have expressed a point of view favoring the left.
    2) He is a hard core right-winger (based on his post content) and his 'ignore' list is heavily biased, based on his political mindset.

3)Furthermore, my own belief is that the people on his 'ignore' list are not actually ignored. I've seen him respond, sometimes directly but on most occasions indirectly, either further down in the same thread or in a different thread.

1)Partially true, but what's that got to do with anything? I mean it's my ignore feature, why can't I choose what I do and do not want to spend time reading?

    2)Really? http://www.politicalcompass.org/test
    My results:Economic Left/Right: 2.00
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 3.64
    What's your score?
As I've said before if I seem extreme right it's only because YOU are extreme left.

3)Believe whatever you want pin head but YOU ARE on my ignore list. (Which is apparently a real thorn in your side.) And I am INDIRECTLY responding to you, as in a quote of a quote.

I count roughly 250 alias's on my list. Supposedly there are 145,680 ET members. Even if only 10% are active members that means I have only 1.7% of them on ignore. Considering that many of the alias's belong to the same few idiots the actual percentage is even less than that.
So what was the problem again?

If a member chooses to publish his list in these forums then it perforce lends itself to scrutiny, comments, criticisms etc. You can decide to read or not read whatever you want. However, since you elected to publicize your list, I have every right, as do all others, to offer my views on the same. Readers can determine for themselves, the merits or lack thereof of your compilation. As a segue, I offered my comments to the effect that your list was in essence a political aggregation favoring the right.
Any individual with some sense of perspicacity will be able to see for himself/herself, your response pattern with regard to ignored posters. The 50% was used derisively by another member to convey his sarcasm at the profuse and progressive growth in numbers of your list, relatively speaking I assume, since I can't read his mind. I don't need to see your political compass. Your written material here will suffice, thank you.
Being on your list is a "real thorn" in my side? LOL. Why shoud I care? It doesn't affect me one way or the other. When a list is offered for public perusal, then observations, remarks and assessments are both warranted and fair game. It is only fitting to do justice by partaking in the aforementioned activities.
