Josh Brolin and Oliver Stone on Charlie Rose ...great interview. Whatever you think of Bush, I can't think of anything much more topical today, maybe the election or the economy, but its up there. Stone always finds the theme that is most seductive. Trailer looks terrific. OPened today.
TRAITOR ......Don Cheadle ROCKED! Great story line covering asymetrical aspects of how the conflict with the middle east drags out......and no side is pure!. TRAITOR is my "sleeper" movie of the year, what a pleasant surprise!!! http://www.traitor-themovie.com/ BODY OF LIES ........total crap, the movie was a dead body of lies! Just another fake BS version of current ME Ops. http://bodyoflies.warnerbros.com/index.html
I was planning on buying "Wall-E" dvd...... I thought it was supposed to be awesome movie, but then saw some reviews from people saying it was OK but not great. Anyone here seen it and recomend it??
Absolutely agree. Two I have mentioned in past threads: The Train, with Angelina's dad The Gambler, with James Caan
Just in case you missed this straight to-presumably late night TV stinker, here's the heads up; "Shark Swarm"......yes, that's right. Daryl Hannah, Armand Assante, Roy Scheider....... I thought, late one night, cool, that sounds like it has all the makings of a real B-Grade pisstake on the jaws movies, Roy Scheider lended credibility, could be funny. Except it was actually John Schneider, like a train wreck i sat watching this awful tosh, to see how, after Roy Scheider failed to appear, unsurprising, given he died in February this year, (I know that NOW) they could possibly get leverage out of what i mistakenly imagined must be a "snakes on a plane" style title. They didn't, put simply. However, this film IS remarkable, in a number of ways, at least for something made so recently- 1-No attempt at humor was made at any point-it actually rolled like it was supposed to be a serious film. 2-The CGI was at 1980's level......were they trying to be retro, or did they get students to do it? 3-The rubber sharks were at 1980's level, and in fact may have been leftovers in the studio somewhere-the worst rubber sharks in donkey's. 4-Gaping plot holes the likes of which are remarkable. Firstly, in the space of what appears to be about a week or so, some ten or a dozen people dissapear, viciously devoured by CGI sharks, one witnessed by a child, who didn't say anything, and whom's parents didn't notice there kid floated back to shore themselves.....a fishing boat full of shark teeth......in a very small community, and nobody notices. Tight community , that one. A "secret" navy weapon, which a professor just happens to have a supply of.........remarkably, the same professor can track these shark swarms by satellite, despite the navy , coast guard, meteorological services, nor fisherman being able to detect, or at least, notice said massive anomalies beforehand or during. Throw in the evident issues with the CGI sharks, such as every single one being at the upper limits of known size, and the fact hammerheads just don't grow big enough to be doing what they are portrayed as doing, and......well I could go on. Remember "Piranha" , and "Anaconda"? Well those movies were a million times better. This looks like a school project or something, like hollywood is running out of trained film crew, so they get some hard up volunteer actors to donate there time to show newb film crews what to do, and hey, its ALWAYS good enough for television God, I hope nobody got paid for this.
I saw Hannibal for the first time this weekend. It was on a local TV station, one of their afternoon matinee deals. What a GREAT movie. I don't think any actor is more convincing than Anthony Hopkins. This movie was disturbing. I have a question though, since I saw it on my small television I may have missed some details. WARNING SPOILER TO COME. IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN HANNIBAL, DO NOT READ THIS POST FURTHER!! In the scene where Hannibal has the two FBI agents at the table for "dinner", he tells Ray Liotta's character to eat his broth. So he sips it through a tube that appears to be coming from under the table. He says, "that doesn't taste so good", making me wonder what the hell it was. Anybody know? Seeing the brain scene was disturbing. I still can't get that image out of my mind. And the surprise where Hannibal cuts off his own hand instead of Clarice's. Wow, Hannibal shows compassion. So you expect him to NOT feed the human brain to the kid on the airplane, but he does it anyway. I guess they through that in just to let us know that Hannibal is still cruel even if he gave Clarice a break. Again, WOW, what a movie. Five stars. Ooops - EDIT - Make that 4 1/2 stars. I'm deducting a half star for that cornball fireworks display and the "I'm and FBI agent" at the end.
You can watch It's A Wonderful Life (1946) - Feature Film on google, a great movie. The bank run part is very meaningful to current market condition.
I have to respond to this one. This was on SCI-FI, the home for the worst made-for-TV schlock out there today. Just the other night they showed one called Super Gator with Kelly McGillis, looking about 62 years old. SCI-FI is where actors go to die nowadays. Some of the films, like the Gator one, are entertaining; others, like Lake Placid 2 (again with John Schneider) are simply painful. These are the new B-movies! For a good laugh, watch these SCI-FI flicks!
When I walk thru a tape rental place it occurs to me how many films I've seen and I'm not even a movie buff. For every watchable film or television show theres hundreds of offerings of crap. There are more "aspiring actors" than there are lawyers coming out of college. When you buy a Reese's cup or an F-150 they contribute to inflation in unaccounted for amounts. Guess it beats working. Acting ...not like playing the piano or violin.
