"It was only after a telephonic conversation with US President Donald Trump on March 27th that Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to curb international flights from China. China’s Civil Aviation Administration stated after the discussion “that 90% of international flights would be temporarily suspended. The number of incoming passengers would be cut to 5,000 a day, from 25,000. China has also ordered local airlines to maintain only one route per country, once a week, as of 29th March”. By the end of March COVID-19 had become a full blown global crisis with nearly 10,000 deaths in Italy, Spain and the US and over 5000 in Iran and the UK which was much more than those dead in China."
China did export and spread covid as fast and efficiently as it could all the way into March 2020. Every flight data and all communication that is archived supports that fact.
Mine is based on factual flight data too and in fact this one person Neil Ferguson who started the theory that China deliberately allowed international flights to leave Wuhan to somehow spread the virus to all around the world admitted that he was wrong: Update (April 22, 2020): In his response, Ferguson concedes that he was wrong to allege that regular flights left from Wuhan to the rest of the world after January 23, which is what I had asked him about since it would suggest a deliberate effort by the Chinese government to allow, if not encourage, the spread of the virus to the rest of the world. http://www.niallferguson.com/blog#.Xp76zROZbVE.link Some of the flights that appeared to be from Wuhan were in fact from another city in China even though the flight itself still showed Wuhan. There, but you still answered my previous question:
That simply not true mate. You even ignore the repatriation flights that continued for a very long time, well after Jan 2020. And please don't change the story. I never claimed only flights from Wuhan. China allowed flights from all over China to leave China LONG after Jan 2020. Chinese also got infected outside of Wuhan before anyone abroad got infected. China was reckless though I am pretty convinced it acted deliberately to infect the rest of the world. Nothing else can explain China's action and it pressuring WHO to not declare the pandemic much earlier than March. I don't care about this guy you cited nor what he said or did not say. I also never talked about regular and irregular flights. China pressured every country to NOT limit international travel well after Jan 2000. That is a fact and 100% truth. You can look it up everywhere. Not sure why you spin the facts and publish untruth.
My brother came on a tourist flight from Shanghai to Sidney in Feb 2020. No special flight. We were offshore fishing for 2 weeks off Gold Coast. We did not know how severe this outbreak would get and were lucky to get back in time without being stranded. But China knew in January full well how severe it was. They did nothing to curb international travel. Other countries shut down those motherfuckers, not China itself. So, stop talking trash. I witnessed first hand how China allowed regular flights out of China in February. I picked up my bro from the airport in Sidney. Those are facts. And with this I got enough of your story spinning. Feel free to continue to post your selective bias but I am out of this thread. I understand your anger towards our weak governments and how poorly they handled covid. But you are shit talking by falsifying the truth how China acted.
Repatriation flights are totally different. Those were flights that foreign governments initiated that wanted to bring their expatriates home from China. China actually made great efforts to try to block those flights but the foreign governments insisted so that shouldn't be on China. It's our government that was stupid to want to bring "our people" home. I was originally sympathetic to our government from doing so but looking at hindsight, they should've let them there. And as for China trying to pressure foreign governments of allowing flights from China, that China did do which is what I wrote before: Not spinning, just the facts. WHY are all the governments bowing to China's pressure and not standing up to them? To me, that's the biggest contributing factor that this virus became a global pandemic in addition to the factor that
My brother was not on a repatriation flight. He does not hold Chinese or Australian citizenship or residence. So, your claims remain false. And your stupid assertion that it was reckless of our governments to bring our own citizens home is unpatriotic and a shitty attitude to freedom and democracy. You never leave a soldier behind. You don't just let your own citizens go to waste. I am out of here.
That's true without looking at the context, but immediately after is So his conclusion is China could have stopped the spread of COVID-19 to the rest of the world like they did inside China.
Yeah Shanghai!!!! NOT Wuhan!!! You obviously have no idea about China's geography. Shanghai and Wuhan are FAR apart from each other. And Shanghai is not where the virus originated and had almost no virus cases. We are talking about how China did not stop flights going to international destinations from WUHAN back in Jan. when the virus load was at its peak!!!
For one thing he was clear that: "I have never suggested that the Chinese government deliberately set out to spread a novel coronavirus around the world..." very much opposite to what was suggested by @DiceAreCast. This Ferguson guy's conclusion is China's political model is flawed in that it didn't allow it to stop the spread of Covid-19 fast enough. Even though it made efforts to stop all flights after Jan. 23 from Wuhan, the epicentre of the virus, by that time it was too late because people have already travelled before that date to all around the world while it was still figuring out the virus. And there were blunders and mishaps that also happened during its efforts that further exacerbated the situation. China did better than last time with SARS when there was a major cover-up but it's still not good enough and it could do better. That's his conclusion. Well that we know and nobody has ever disputed that. China is not god. It doesn't have a crystal ball. But then again, nobody did any better this time. Did our governments that supposedly operate on a different political model a democratic model do better? Imo, it did even worse even seeing how it happened in China. Even seeing how the disease unravelled in China, those so-called "experts" in our countries still claimed the virus is "low risk" which inadvertently delayed all of our responses.
