China will have destroyed proof of Wuhan coronavirus leak, says former MI6 chief

Speaking to The Telegraph's Planet Normal podcast, Sir Richard Dearlove said vital pandemic clues would be 'made to disappear'

Evidence that a lab leak in Wuhan sparked the coronavirus pandemic has probably been destroyed by China, the former head of MI6 has said.

Sir Richard Dearlove, who headed up the secret intelligence service between 1999 and 2004, warned that it would be difficult to prove that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was working on ‘gain of function’ experiments to make a natural coronavirus more deadly to humans.

Speaking to Allison Pearson on the Telegraph’s Planet Normal podcast, which you can listen to on the audio player above, he warned that the West had been naive in its trust of China, which had infiltrated scientific institutions and journals in Britain and beyond.

Sir Richard said it was possible that scientists who wanted to speak out about the experiments had been ‘silenced.’

“The People’s Republic of China is a pretty terrifying regime and does some things we consider unacceptable, and extreme in silencing opposition to the official line of the government,” he said.

“We don’t know that's what's happened, but a lot of data has probably been destroyed or made to disappear so it’s going to be difficult to prove definitely the case for a gain-of-function chimera being the cause of the pandemic.

“This is why scientific analysis is now so important because although that can’t prove the case 100 per cent, the thorough biochemical analysis puts the weight of evidence to this being a man-made lab experiment, a natural virus that has been enhanced.”

Last week, US President Joe Biden ordered American intelligence officials to “redouble” their efforts to identify the origins of the Covid-19, and report back within 90 days. British intelligence officials are also helping the US in establishing whether the pandemic was caused by a lab leak and several eminent scientists have now called for a major inquiry including researchers who worked on experiments with Wuhan scientists.

Sir Richard added: “The whole argument has shifted and I’m pretty sure in my own mind that the US must have material which has accelerated this development.

“China was originally let off the hook. I think the problem was the style of the Trump regime, a lot of people understandably found it hard to go along with his more outlandish allegations.

“In the end it’s going to boil down to scientific evidence because the data is no longer available, unless some courageous Chinese individual, probably a scientist, comes forward.

“We have been through a period of extraordinary nativete in our relationship with China.

“Some of the things that were said by George Osborne and David Cameron about our relationship with China, how we were going to have this privileged position, I was staggered at the time by the sheer naivete that they could develop a relationship with China without understanding they were dealing with a communist dictatorship, and one that has its own strategic agenda.

“This is a really important issue and has massive, far-reaching implications. If the outcome is likely to be that serious, which personally I think it will be, I can’t see China agreeing to pay reparations, and I’m not sure what our future relationship with China is going to be.”

Sir Richard said an inquiry into whether the virus leaked from a lab should not be left to the World Health Organisation (WHO) which has been criticised for failing to look rigorously into the issue.

“The WHO looks like a lost cause and that should not be the agency to deliver material which gives us a clear understanding of what the hell happened,” he added.

“The WHO report was farcical and it’s clear now they are losing control of the narrative.”

Maybe you should actually read the emails and stop making false claims about they state.

I am all for a continued in depth investigation into the origins of COVID. The recent WHO investigation was obviously a white-wash where the Chinese government did not allow the investigators access to people, records or the site(s) in Wuhan.

Amazing that you misrepresent the content of the emails and make fabricated speculative claims about the emails as "proof" that Fauci did something wrong.

Emails show "Fauci's fellow scientist could tell early on that the (coronavirus) looked manufactured."
    https://www.politifact.com/factchec...ils-fauci-dont-show-early-agreement-virus-wa/

No, emails to Fauci don’t show early agreement that virus was man-made
    • One email to Fauci from a credible researcher noted the possibility of an engineered virus, but said more work was needed.

    • Other emails came from less credible voices and cited no evidence.
The release of thousands of emails to and from U.S. infectious disease chief Dr. Anthony Fauci has fueled claims that the virus behind COVID-19 was man-made. BuzzFeed and the Washington Post received the emails in response to a Freedom of Information Act request, and both published articles on June 1.

    Fauci’s critics quickly responded.

"Dr Fauci exposed for the fraud he is," said a June 1 Facebook post from the WTF Files. "Fauci's fellow scientist could tell early on that the (coronavirus) looked manufactured."

The post included an email from Kristian Andersen, an immunologist at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, Calif. It underlines last few words of this quote from his Jan. 31, 2020, message to Fauci: "The unusual features of the virus make up a really small part of the genome (<0.1%> so one has to look really closely at all of the sequences to see that some of the features (potentially) look engineered."

    A smoking gun?

    No.

In that same email, Andersen said, "There are still further analyses to be done, so those opinions could still change."

And a little over a month later, they did.

In a March 17, 2020, article in Nature Medicine, Andersen and his colleagues wrote, "Our analyses clearly show that SARS-CoV-2 is not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus."

After the email release, Andersen tweeted June 1 that "we seriously considered a lab leak a possibility," and "what the email shows, is a clear example of the scientific process."

The WTF Facebook post includes another email to Fauci from a professor of dermatology who voiced his suspicion that the virus could have been released from a lab in Wuhan. The email gives no data to support that suspicion.

Plucking emails from the BuzzFeed and Washington Post trove inspired other social media posts suspicious of Fauci.

Instagram posts drew attention to an email to Fauci from independent researcher Adam Gaertner. In one June 2 post, the email’s subject line, "Coronavirus bioweapon production method," and the phrase "This is how the virus was created" are underlined in red.

But despite Gaertner’s use of technical terms, including "adjusted virions" and "conformational rearrangements," the email contains no evidence to prove the point. Gaertner has appeared on web programs that link vaccines to the creation of superspreaders, and he promotes the use of the antiparasitic drug ivermectin to treat COVID-19. Some studies find ivermectin effective in treating COVID-19; others have found no impact.

One Instagram user who shared the image posted an update saying, "Just to be clear this email appears to have been sent to Fauci through public inquiry, so it doesn't necessarily link Fauci to anything."

    Our ruling
A Facebook post says, "Fauci's fellow scientist could tell early on that the (coronavirus) looked manufactured."

The only email that came close to matching that claim noted that while some evidence suggested the virus might be man-made, more work was needed and that opinion could change. The email presented a possibility — a starting point for more research — not a conclusion. The man who wrote that email concluded that the virus developed naturally in a scientific journal article in March 2020.

    We rate this claim False.

I asked you a few factual questions how does that misrepresent anything..you just have to answer them. Did they fund the Wuhan lab...yes or no. That is really all you need to know...to see that rat son of a bitch is culpable.

Once again you are pushing nonsense. Let's address your "profiting from the pandemic" crap plus the later posts trying to state that Fauci's book was taken down on Amazon and Barnes & Noble due to the email dump.

The book was merely posted prematurely for pre-release and had to be removed. Dr. Fauci is not making any money on the book as outlined below.

Dr. Anthony Fauci Book Scrubbed From Amazon, Barnes & Noble After Premature Posts
    https://deadline.com/2021/06/dr-ant...mazon-barnes-noble-premature-post-1234768402/

Amazon and Barnes & Noble have apparently taken down a new book by Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the chief medical advisor to the president.

Fauci’s 80-page book, Expect the Unexpected: Ten Lessons on Truth, Service, and the Way Forward, is expected to be released by National Geographic Books on November 2.

On Tuesday, the book was posted for pre-sale online at $18 on both websites. The posts were then removed. National Geographic Books confirmed the removal to DailyMail.com, which reported that the book sale had been posted accidentally and prematurely.

“The book was developed by National Geographic Books in connection with an upcoming National Geographic Documentary Film about Dr. Fauci. He will not earn any royalties from its publication.”

The book features interviews that Fauci has conducted during his 34-years as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

The overview states: “The earnest reflections in these pages will offer a universal message on how to lead in times of crisis and find resilience in the face of disappointments and obstacles.”

Meanwhile, Fauci is under fire as emails published by the Washington Post appear to contradict some of his public stances on face masks and other pandemic issues.
