dcraig, the problem with Al Gore's movie is this. Al uses ice core samples as his basis to show evidence that CO2 emissions and global warming are related. He is correct, but every ice core sample ever taken shows the same thing. Increased CO2 emissions lag global temperature increases, by as much as 700 years. For whatever reason increased temperatures cause an increase in CO2 not the other way around. Al Gore knows this and is a flat out lying piece of crap.
Their front page banner says a lot about this site: "Free Market Solutions" It is unabashedly ideologically driven.
What, it is okay for Al Gore to be ideologically driven but not his detractors. You are a hypocrite. Thanks for proving it to everyone. What the hell is wrong with free market solutions, they tend to work much better than Government solutions.
There was that hurricane that hit South America. Isn't supposed to happen. There was that graph showing steady increase in temperature over recent decades. Something is happening. Is man contributing to it? Does it matter if the consequences are catastrophic? Prudent thing to do is take some insurance. Those arguing it is not happening because evidence is inconclusive are sticking their heads in the sand. Do we really want to find out how bad it can get when it is conclusive beyond all doubt? As it is didn't that recent UN related document see it as 95% certain that man is having an effect? As for scientists saying there is a problem just so they can get funding, I'd sooner believe them than the business groups saying there isn't a problem so they can avoid spending on preventative measures. Free markets are a great thing. But without government you'd have anarchy.
Prudent? Just like 20 yrs ago when doctors said it was 'prudent' to cut butter from your diet and use margarine instead. Oops, margarine is worse for your heart - trans fats I believe - than butter ever was. The point being, it was an UNEXPECTED consequence of switching. The same premise applies here too. The evidence of warming is agreed upon. Whether or not humans are the main driver behind it are highly disputed. In other words, the OPINIONS of some scientists aren't actionable....
first: free markets cannot solve everything. that is why most countries in the world do not privatise military, watersupply and education. second: those crying loudes for "free" markets love to cut down this very freedom when it comes to their competitors. what we call free markets today are often oligopolies. guess what all the companies and lobbyists are doing in washington DC? fighting for free markets?
