A good leader accepts that some challenges are tough to make. But someone has to do it. I have to lay off close to 50 people in our organization in the next month - part of why I've been so pissy lately. I hate having to do this to people, families over some stupid scare that is way way overblown. I don't equate this decision to something Trump has to make but when you lead you have to do so in the bad times as well as the good. Anyone can make decisions in good times. True character makes the ones in the bad, and accepts responsibility for those decisions when they were wrong (something Trump is miserable at, by the way). Its also why I get mad about all these "models". Not a one considers the downside to the economy in the equation. Its all about the virus. These are one sided equations. How can you have a decision made when you only consider half of the equation? And that is exactly what we have done.
I think the probablities indicated its easier than that. By locking down low risk groups you only save a few Covid deaths in total. very few Low risk people die from Covid... according the stats we are seeing. Yet... you also create more deaths, more health issues, more mental health issues, addictions, alcoholism, molestation, domestic violence and many other measurable damages from the lockdown. So not even looking at the financial damage... it most areas the shutdown was like a massive disaster. Then when you put the financial damage in... which we have only just begun...
yeah Biden si the grandpa from the Simpsons..to be honest I put more value in Congress who can have a bigger impact so if Biden wins to simply force a change of what we got and shake things up again, I can live with that for 3.5 years as long as congress is strong but the McConnel-Pelosi Shows is like two asses farting non-stop. I think Biden wins in 2020 and then 2024 we hit the reset button and both parties come up with something better for us to choose from (I know it won't happen that way on Dem side if Biden wins but let's call 2020-2024 an intermission
at this point you're voting the cabinet in. Trump won't follow his and will fill it w/incompetent yes men. Biden may be losing it (as it's transparently clear Trump is)but will likely vet people that aren't out there to make a buck off tragedy.
Biden would most likely be a one term president. He’s simply too old - it’s his weakness. What you do get with Biden is a well run federal government, competent relations with congress, and a moral and ethical clarity. I don’t care how old Biden is, he knows how to manage the government. He can do it in his sleep. There is no doubt this Covid mess would be as mismanaged as it is now with Biden as president. There would at the very least be a comprehensive and coherent plan on how to open the economy. Right now Trump has no plan. Where is tracking and tracing? OSHA regulations, PPE program for workers. There’s nothing happening.
That was the same argument republicans made to justify Trump. "You'll be voting the cabinet". Didn't work well there, either.
One of the things that concern me most is while we're wandering in the political wilderness trying to find our way our enemies are plotting and scheming. We may need a breather, but the heat won't get turned down just because we're in need of a rest and recovery period. Dangerous times and poor leaders is a recipe for disaster.
Trump has a plan, he wants to get his Nuremberg rallies started without even social seperation as spaces look bad. And that's where it is, his political fortune outweighs the life of others. He a full blown malignant narcissist just said "I love you" those who have lost family. He is upping his lie game to fake empathy. "Half of the people lie with their lips; the other half with their tears" Taleb.
I think they underestimated Trump's trait of being in control of everything and thinking he knows better than everyone. I think Biden would be more open to even a mixed cabinet like Bush and Obama did to their credit. I am less concerned about the cabinet since they basically ge fed shit from the lifer staffs they oversee and are just figureheads until they can land their psot cabient gig. I think removing Trump and punishing Congress a bit is the best way to start the government reset.
i'd be worried the other way on Biden. That his cabinet would run everything because he would be essentially out of touch and incompetent.
