That makes sense, but my question is, why ET? Today there are dozens of free chat software and rooms already set up--- why here with multiple rooms? With a single room, I think it would be stickier to users since it is the ET ROOM-- which differentiates it and gives it value--when that value starts to be spread out with CHOICE -- it quickly dissipates == My opinion only---
Yeah I agree. There is strong economic theory here as well that says removing choices is usually optimal. When faced with too many choices instead of picking one, people will not choose any. I say one room. Trust me on this. Once this correction is over and the market gets quiet again there will be 5 to 10 in chat and it all be the same guy talking to himself. One and done baby.
Thanks. If i remember, the multi-room etc was tried here and that led to complete unraveling of the room. It's indeed humorous to read parrot boy and the others naive comments on how even such a simple concept works.
If Al Brooks dares not fly close enough to the sun to make live calls in a trading room, how will mere mortals aspire to such scorching scalp-burning scenarios?
Ok, based on all the feedback I think the best approach is somewhere in the middle, so what I'm going to do is set this up so that there is a primary room that everybody automatically gets dumped in upon going to the chat page. This will be the main room so to speak, which means it will be the busiest, and will be reminiscent of the old ET chat room. However, users will have the option to go to a handful of more focused rooms if they so desire, but they will need to physically click on an "Other Rooms" link from the main room in order to see their choices and move on. Most members probably won't bother with this at all but the option is always there. This solution will be the best in my opinion, as it keeps things busy and interactive for the majority of chatters, but also provides a high level of focus for those who are not interested in general ramblings and want to venture into deeper conversations about more specific markets. If these focused rooms prove successful, hopefully they will be engaging enough that the pioneers want to keep the ball rolling by inviting their like minded friends. So that's the general setup. This meeting is adjourned. Thanks for the feedback everyone!
Baron please put a min post limit to get into chat or this thing will go down in flames fast. I wish we could say we are dealing with grown ups here but you and I both know we are not. Act accordingly.
