If u n q3d think u gonna trash Al Brooks in chat that won't work. u b talkin to each other. maybe kut2k might engage u, but no one gonna log in to spend time here for that.
I think we have to remember to think about who this chat is for. If there will be private chats going on within a main room, these guys might as well go to skype or some other messenger service... why use the resources of ET? If the rooms will be picked by Baron, then essentially nobody owns them so there will have to be moderators. Now if a member has the option of creating their own room, then perhaps it would be a great feature to allow this member to ban anyone they don't want posting in it, but still allow it to be read only, because, once again, if its just two guys chatting with nobody else having access, they might as well do it over skype. By having a completely private chat room, it I think takes away from the essence of what it means to come to ET and interact with other traders. There have already been enough posts mentioning how certain members are having great discussion in private threads, do we really need another avenue for this? Imagine if all trading was done in dark pools and nobody had any idea how much is being bought or sold, and how much is being bid or offered, and it was all essentially in a vacuum! @wrbtrader is correct in that if the rules aren't any different than for posting messages in this forum, then given the current landscape of trolls and multiple aliases, the chat rooms will quickly die. But if it can be implemented with some restrictions, then I think there is hope. That's my 2 cents.
I give him credit for posting calls for 14 yrs. Win or lose. And he does own up to getting crushed when it happens. As he should because he cheer leads when he is up on a call. But if he or any guys are going to post any "trades" they have to be somewhat realistic. Posting prices an hour later or entering a front month of a futures contract and exiting it using the next contract's price is ridiculous.
At the end of the day I think having a real time chat up is a great idea. I have an AOL up now with 30 guys in it. While we shoot the shit about trading mostly, there are times when the conversations are hilarious (like Mav pointed out they had in the old ET one). When things are slow at lunch it's like posting on a comedy central chat. I would definitely keep an ET chat open on one of my screens as there are some good guys still left on here.
My prior alias is off topic of this discussion but the change was "announced" by me in a thread I started and I only changed it after approval with Baron. I'll send you a pm with my prior alias and the reason why I changed it.
The only reason why I suggested the creation of some dedicated rooms is because the quality would be higher and the noise would be much lower, and also I figured you guys would be more likely to invite other traders to a predefined room with a better signal-to-noise ratio than you would a one room free-for-all.
Room 1: live trading calls and mostly serious trading talk, including announcements, earnings, relevant news, etc. Room 2: chat, where anything goes, including late night beer fueled antics and even P&R. If room 1 continues to be too busy (once the new feature honeymoon period is over), then split into, say, a) futures/fx and b) stocks/options, or such like, or like suggestions above. However it is organised, it should be such that each room is reasonably active. - says a second alias ET'er On a side note, Baron, some toolbar button images and other ET UI images, including avatars and the ET logo aren't showing.
